SITC Presents New Areas Tailor-made To Travellers

The Desert Port, the Offers Area, the Mad Travellers Routes and the second edition of the Pink Corner will be the exhibition areas at the show, with customised products. The International Tourism Show of Catalonia (SITC), organised by Fira de Barcelona from the 16th to the 19th of April 2009, will present the proposals of 1,500 exhibitors from over 75 countries and all Spanish autonomous communities to the Catalan public - the country's biggest travellers. The Desert Port -making its debut this year- will feature options of different countries, especially from the Arab world, which offer the attraction of the desert. Tour operators, specialist companies and travel agencies will present their proposals aimed at lovers of the desert, with tastings of typical products, a chill-out zone and activities.

In the Offers Area, visitors will be able to purchase trips at unbeatable prices, since it will concentrate the sector's best offers to different destinations provided by exhibiting companies.

The more adventurous or alternatives will be able to find their ideal destinations in the Mad Travellers Routes Area, which will concentrate active tourism, trekking and mountain bike, quad and motorcycle routes, as well as options for lovers of nautical sports and of light aircraft, delta wing and ultralight flights.

The Pink Corner, which last year featured, for the first time, tourism and leisure options for LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgender) and gay-friendly groups, will be back in SITC. Last year, it was the first show in Spain with a specialised area targeting this group. The second edition of the Pink Corner again has the support of the Federació d'Associacions Coordinadora Gai-Lesbiana.

The show will also feature specific proposals, as cruise tourism and the Camping Area.

Perugia, guest city
Perugia, capital of the Italian region of Umbria, has been designated guest city of the coming show. An artistic centre among the most visited in Italy, Perugia is a medieval city of Etruscan origin, seat of two universities and a compendium of its region's' multiple characteristics: culture, history, religion, handicrafts, nature and enogastronomy. Another attraction is the "Umbria Jazz Festival", a musical event which boasts great European prestige and, every year in July, brings together hundreds of artists and lovers of jazz. Located in the north central zone of the Italian peninsula, Umbria is also known for the religious centres of Gubbio and Assisi.

Prizes, contests and activities
The recreational, cultural and sporting activities, the Win and Travel Area with contests and draws for trips and prizes, as well as shows, folklore exhibitions and tastings of typical products will complete the show, which will continue to be the setting for CAT Turisme, ACPETUR - SITC and Alimara Awards (organised by CETT and SITC), all of which are very prestigious in the tourist sector.

After 17 years, SITC has become totally established and a leader in Spain among shows targeting end consumers. In this sense, it is important to mention that Catalans account for 30% of Spanish tourists who travel to foreign destinations and 40% of total trips. According to a survey carried out after the last show, 60% of visitors to SITC decide on their destinations during the event. For all these reasons, SITC is a very solid commercial platform for exhibiting companies, for the public and for the tourist industry.
