| Mido - International Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology Exhibition This year will be a year of major challenges: the unfavorable economic situation, falling GDP and consumption will make it an uphill climb for all industries, at both a national and international level. Mido has decided to tackle this situation with unrivalled determination, by catering to the needs of eyewear companies, even if this has called for a momentous change. "Playing in advance and staging Mido in March rather than May is a revolutionary change", said Mido president Vittorio Tabacchi ."But it was also a must-have. The new dates respond to the need of companies to present their collections at the same time as the dates dictated by the international marketplace". The new dates, March 6 through 9, place Mido at the end of a 10-day period when as many as 12 international shows will be hosted in Milan: from Milano Donna, Cloudnine and Milanovendemoda, to MICAM, MIFUR and MIPEL. This will allow important synergies to be generated and exploited between the world of fashion shows, clothing and accessory exhibitions. Mido has therefore opted to "form a system" with the other shows being staged simultaneously in Milan to offer a strategic reference point for fashion buyers, creating a two-week period in which it will be possible to view, try out and experience all the latest global trends and products. "All this means that exhibitors need to work even harder to ensure that their collections are ready 2 months in advance. This challenge should be accepted enthusiastically, knowing that the new dates are a great opportunity ", Tabacchi continued. This extra effort by exhibitors will be rewarded as this year's Mido's intent is therefore not to be simply a "container" of spaces and services, but also a provider of contents, by promoting meetings and exchanges among trade people as well as professional learning opportunities. Mido, in fact, has been rescheduled to a new date but remains the world's leading eyewear show, the world's eyewear powerhouse, the only one capable of representing the entire sector, including large and small companies alike, along the entire production chain, from machinery to frames, lenses and small parts. Mido is also synonymous with customized training, updating and ad-hoc services that do not stop at the 4-day event, but are made available to companies all year round. In 2009, the appointment with leading producers of frames and sunglasses will be in Pavilions 9-11. At Pavilion 15, the focus will be on lenses with all the latest technologies and comfort details. Technology will be, as usual, a regular fixture: at Pavilion 22 with Mido Tech, an exhibition space devoted entirely to machinery and raw materials and encompassing the entire eyewear production chain. Design galore Mido is essentially a show in progress, boldly projected into the future and its calling becomes manifest at Mido Design Lab (Pav. 24). This is perfectly in tune with the spirit of the city that has hosted Mido for almost 40 years. Milan is globally renowned as the capital of design and innovation, as the most appropriate showcase for all cutting-edge industry trends - a true beacon for all the trendiest operators in the sectors of fashion and design. The new dates that coincide with other exhibitions require exhibitors and visitors to organize themselves faster and really well. For this reason Mido has provided more online communications on the www.mido.it portal, with news about the exhibition and useful information for exhibitors and visitors, how to get there and how to book hotels.
