| The Motortec-09 The Jury for the fifth edition of the MOTORTEC INNOVATION GALLERY met last January 27 in order to select the products and services that stand out for their special contribution to the automobile industry. The Trade Show, which will take place between March 10 to 14, has granted 9 Awards and 6 Special Mentions to the most outstanding ideas at the event, based on their innovative appeal and their contribution to the industry's development. The Jury of Experts, which was headed by José Antonio Jiménez Saceda, the Chairman of the MOTORTEC Organising Committee and featured representatives from technological centres, university technical institutes, consulting companies and the specialised press, evaluated, among other factors, the entries´ degree of innovation, functional appeal and design. Other essential criteria in the awards selection process were based on the products´ energy efficiency and their respect for the environment. Precisely at this edition, the organisers of MOTORTEC created a special award for the most innovative product or service in terms of its contribution to the environment, thus highlighting the fair´s commitment to the industry´s sustainable development. The Environmental Category was won by the PC100M BIO New Washing Device for Parts, a product presented by the company, KARCHER S.A. This company was also awarded a Special Mention under the heading of Garage Equipment and Tools. AWARDS In the Category for innovation under the heading of Mechanical Components, four awards were granted, two of which went to products from the company, SCHAEFFLER IBERIA. The first was the LuK Bimass Steering-Wheel with Centrifugal Pendulum-Type Absorber, a product that guarantees optimum steering control, even for the future generations of high-torque engines. The second award consisted of the FAG Radial Groove Ball Bearings, which reduce the weight of the ball-bearing by 10%, thus improving consumption and expense. The third award went to the Brembo Dual Cast Floating Brake Disc, a product developed by BREMBO that is capable of optimising braking performance thanks to the use of an aluminium hat and a cast-iron braking surface. The last award in this category was granted to the Bio Belt In Oil, an idea from DAYCO EUROPE AFTERMARKET. This consists of a belt immersed in oil that reduces transmission noise, reduces loss of friction and consumption and optimises the life of the vehicle, extending it to 240,000 kilometres. The award that was granted within the Electrical and Electronic Components Category went to the company, HELLA, S.A., for its Cadillac Escalade Platinum LED Headlights. This lighting system is unique because it incorporates all LED functions in one product, even cross beam and road beam capabilities, offering a type of light that is similar to that of daylight, thus ensuring safer and less tiring driving conditions. The Visualiner Prism from AGUADO AUTOMOCIÓN S.A. won an award within the category devoted to Garage Equipment and Tools. This mechanism improves wheel alignment systems for vehicles, thanks to its 3D two-chamber technology with portability. This device can be used with any elevator on the market and uses long-life lithium ion batteries. In the Diagnostic Vehicle Equipment Category, the award went to the Crecorder tool, from LAUNCH IBÉRICA, S.L., which offers an attractive design, a reduced size and a degree of versatility which enables the software to be constantly updated. Finally, under the heading of Contributions to Industrial Vehicle Innovation, an award was presented to the U620/2 X Filter Kit from Urea (Ad Blue) for SCR Systems, a product developed by MANN + HUMMEL IBÉRICA S.A. This is a device that helps to reduce polluting gas emissions, thus helping to protect the environment. Furthermore, it extends the periods between service checks, optimising costs and enhancing reliability. SPECIAL MENTIONS In addition to the awards themselves, various products were granted Special Mentions by the Innovation Gallery Jury. In this respect, in the Mechanical Components Category a Special Mention was awarded to SCHAEFFLER IBERIA for its Regulatory System for the INA Camshaft with Central Valve, which, among other contributions, helps to reduce CO2 emissions. The category devoted to Electric al and Electronic Components f eatured a Special Mention for the Biokit product from BIOKIT MOTOR, S.L., a system that endows a vehicle with the flexibility of being able to use an alternative fuel to gasoline, such as bio-ethanol. In the Accessories Category, a Special Mention went to MiniCool Compact Night and Day, from DIRNA S.A, an instrument that is easy to install and permits the use of air-conditioning both during the daytime and at night when the engine is not actually working. In the Service Stations and Vehicle Care Category, a Special Mention was granted to the Anti-Incrustation System for High-Pressure Washing Facilities from the company, ISTOBAL, S.A., which presents the build-up of inorganic salts in high-pressure boilers. The last Special Mention was awarded within the category devoted to Garage Equipment and Tools. In this case, it went to the Electude Argo Platform from the company, ELECTUDE, a virtual e-learning environment for the training and education of mechanics, technicians and vocational training students through a series of digital games and 3D animations that convey important learning principles. All of the products and systems chosen will be exhibited in the space that MOTORTEC ´09 has set aside for the INNOVATION GALLERY within the framework of the Show. The awards presentation ceremony will take place on 10th Match, coinciding with the opening day of the Trade Show.
