Complementary Programme At ISH 2009

From 10 to 14 March, some 2,400 manufacturers - more than half of them from outside Germany - will be presenting the world's largest exhibition of industrial achievement in the 'Bathroom Experience', building, energy, air-conditioning technology and renewable energies. In this anniversary year, which marks "50 years of ISH", the exhibition centre is fully booked. Alongside its comprehensive range of products, this international trade fair offers a high-level complementary programme. In line with the important sector issues of sustainability and energy efficiency, a large number of special exhibitions, specialist forums and symposiums are concerned with questions surrounding the careful and responsible use of water and energy in buildings.

The Bathroom Experience: Water for People
The "Blue Responsibility" campaign picks up and examines in greater detail the topic of sustainability. The campaign is organised by the VDMA - Fittings Association (Fachverband Armaturen) together with the German Sanitation Industry Forum (IndustrieForum Sanitär – IFS). Well-known German brand-name manufacturers of sanitation products will be exhibiting under this general title and providing evidence of their particular expertise in terms of sustainable solutions in the field of sanitation. Thematic displays will lead trade-fair visitors through a trail of information which deals with the technology of water-conservation and drinking-water hygiene as well as focussing on ease of assembly, innovative surfaces, bathrooms that appeal across generation boundaries, comfort, health and not least the manufacturers' social commitment. The "Blue Responsibility" campaign is sponsored by the Association of the German Sanitation Industry (VDS Vereinigung der Deutschen Sanitärwirtschaft).

In Hall 3.1 there is a special meeting place for representatives of the sector and the media concerned with bathrooms and bathing: the Waterlounge. The Lounge has been created by the VDS and Messe Frankfurt and offers a pleasant backdrop for discussion. It gives its own particular visual expression to some of the current bathroom trends. Ten of the bathroom trends formulated by the VDS will be presented here at a dedicated information stand with a multi-media presentation.

"The Value of Water" - with this title, the German Swimming Pool and Wellness Association (bsw - Bundesverband Schwimmbad & Wellness e.V.) picks up the theme of drinking water hygiene in building services engineering. Its new brochure on this topic, which the bsw will have available at its stand in Hall 1.1, C40, is a useful marketing instrument, specifically for businesses working in the sanitation, heating and air-conditioning sector. The most recent trend in the wellness sector will be on show in a project presentation which deals with private wellness rooms in the premium range.

"Health and wellness in motion" – this is the motto for a run which is being organised on the opening day of ISH, 10 March, to raise awareness of health and wellness issues – particularly in the work-place. The 'race', over some five kilometres, will begin at around 8:30 a.m. at the Rebstockbad in Frankfurt, and the finishing line will be in the Exhibition Centre. Messe Frankfurt have managed to enlist the services of top runner Jürgen Mennel to organise the event. Mennel, who was runner-up in the World Championships over 100 kilometres, will also be taking part in this 'run for health'.

The Outlook Lounge in the Foyer of Hall 4.2 is a meeting point for architects, engineers and designers as well as for subscribers to the magazine "Outlook – Building Perspectives", published by Messe Frankfurt. This is the first time that Messe Frankfurt has organised the Outlook Lounge. It offers an exclusive rendezvous for discussions with colleagues in an agreeable atmosphere.

The ISH Technology and Energy Forum in Galleria 1 North (walk-way between Halls 8 and 9) showcases the fundamental changes in the heating market. Expert lectures and a cross-sector exhibition will be presenting future trends, including the opportunities that exist for high-efficiency building services technology. Here there will be explanation and discussion of new options for increasing efficiency and for the use of renewable energies in buildings, systems integration in modern building services engineering and the use of biogenic fuels.

From 10 to 13 March in Hall 9.2 the Tiled Stove Forum is offering lectures and discussion forums with well known speakers from the worlds of politics, business and research. Issues include the "Legal framework conditions for small and middle-sized combustion units" and the "Reduction of particulate emissions in small combustion units". The Tiled Stove Forum is organised by the German Tiled Stove Working Group (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der deutschen Kachelofenwirtschaft e.V.) in cooperation with Messe Frankfurt.

The Air-conditioning Forum is an event organised by the Building Climate Institute (Fachinstitut Gebäude Klima e.V. - FGK) in cooperation with Messe Frankfurt. A variety of subsidiary forums will provide a lecture programme and poster presentation to throw light on current issues in building services engineering in contexts relevant to the market. Themes in the forums will include "Architecture and technology", "Sustainable building", "Markets and standardisation", "Objectives for climate protection". The Airconditioning Forum will take place from 10 to 14 March in Hall 5.1 / Congress Centre.

The IKK Building Forum run by the Association of German Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Companies (Verband Deutscher Kälte-Klima-Fachbetriebe e.V. – VDKF) is also taking place within the framework of Aircontec in Hall 6.2. In the spirit of current approaches to holistic ways of looking at the energy requirement of buildings, the focus will be on integrated planning in the fields of heating, ventilation, cooling and air-conditioning technology as well as on measuring, control and regulatory technology. The speakers will be presenting the sector's new products and ideas in 30 minute slots in the lecture forum from the 10 to 13 March.

Competitions
The Design Plus competition stands for expertise in design at Messe Frankfurt and the innovative achievements in design within the industry. The competition is intended for all exhibitors at ISH: 153 companies from 14 countries have submitted a total of 316 products for consideration.

Together with the German Design Council, Messe Frankfurt honours, in the Design Plus Award, products that harmoniously integrate sustainability, aesthetics and functionality. There will be a detailed special exhibition of the award-winning items in the Foyer of Hall 4.2; the award ceremony will be held on 10 March at 2:00 p.m.
