Barcelona Degusta Commits To An Extensive Activities Programme

The Food and Beverage Exhibition for Consumers, Barcelona Degusta, will present a packed programme of entertainment and educational activities which will be the focus of attention for visitors to the show. The exhibition, organised by Alimentaria Exhibitions – a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions and Fira de Barcelona – is scheduled for 6-9 March 2009 at Fira de Barcelona's Montjuďc venue. It will feature a wide variety of talks, tastings, conferences and samplings, all led by well-known professionals from the sector.

Barcelona Degusta 2009 will be characterised by a significant increase in the number of activities taking place as part of the show. They will play a key role during the event. Proof of this is that in 2007 more than 5,500 people visited the Taste Seminars and Taste Agoras. In 2009, the Food and Beverage Exhibition for Consumers, Barcelona Degusta, will present an extensive programme of activities for all audiences.

For the director of the show, David Lapuerta, the activities at Barcelona Degusta 'reflect the spirit of Degusta: bringing food culture and greater knowledge to end consumers'.

Extensive activities programme
The Taste Seminars –educational sessions– and Taste Agoras –culinary shows– are at the epicentre of Barcelona Degusta's activities. A varied schedule of speakers and presenters will be responsible for bringing the secrets and curiosities of today's cooking and its raw materials to visitors in an extensive programme of educational sessions taking place during the exhibition.

In 2009, the Taste Seminars – led by noted chefs – will reveal new ways of cooking with products such as beer and flowers, with the collaboration of master brewers and specialists in cultivating aromatic plants. Additionally, one of the sessions will be dedicated to eggs and their numerous culinary possibilities. For their part, mushrooms, fruits, select meats and fresh fish will offer new uses for today's cooking.

In the area of beverages, waters will be spotlighted at the Taste Seminars, bringing the world of tastings of the universal beverage par excellence to all audiences, as well as the importance of knowing how to choose a certain water for a given occasion. There will also be space for tea in its infinite varieties and the fascinating world of cocktails and mixed drinks.

In addition, the Taste Seminars will present their most socially committed version yet, with sessions dedicated to health and healthy eating habits from the perspective of nutrition, diet and food allergies.

Barcelona Degusta 2009 will once again feature an area dedicated to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that focus their efforts on fighting hunger. The show's Solidarity Area will offer an excellent platform for organisations engaged in food-related activities. Nutrición sin Fronteras, Banc dels Aliments, Intermón-OXFAM and Yamuna will be the organisations taking part in the next edition of the show.

The third edition of Barcelona Degusta will be held 6-9 March 2009 at Fira de Barcelona's Montjuďc venue. Almost 500 exhibitors are expected to participate, with visits from 42,000 attendees.
