| Take A World Tour Of Wine – And Beer At Wine+ 2009 Wine industry representatives from top regions are flying in specifically to show WINE+ 2009 visitors the vast array of grape varieties, styles, flavours and price points available from their own areas. The sheer variety of styles available on the Wines of Germany (Stand 741) will be particularly appealing to WINE+ visitors interested in learning more about how flexible and food friendly German wines are. From the bone dry to the lusciously sweet, Germany has something to match any dish – and is especially strong in Pinot varietals. Find award-winning wines and spirits at Wines & Spirits of Mexico (Stand 305). Visitors will have a chance to chat with representatives from MEXBEST- the Ministry of Agriculture, and try wine from Bodegas Santo Tomás and Vinicola L.A. Cetto. They'll also sample Mezcal from the Consejo Mexicano de Productores de Maguey and Grupo Comercializador Barcelata Mezcal and a wide range of tequilas from producers including Casa Tradicion, Tequila Grillos, the Compania Internacional de Destilados and Destilador de Agave Hacienda los Guajes. Old world provenance meets new world 'pizzazz' at Wines From Spain (Stand 519) – where visitors will taste through a huge spectrum of mouth-watering whites from Albariño to Viura, and reds from Carineña to Garnacha to the iconic Tempranillo, grape of the flagship Rioja. UK-based importers and agencies will also be on hand - including Boutinot, Hamilton Yorke, Liberty Wines, Doudet & Major and Georges Barbier of London. As 10 lucky London sommeliers recently found out on their seminal visit, Wines of Chile (Stand 613) have a great deal to offer restaurants – from Pinot Noirs that challenge Burgundy and New Zealand, to elegant Rhône-style Syrahs, to fresh, mineral Sauvignon Blancs. Visitors will be able to try a wide range – including wine from the cool climate valleys of Elqui, Limari, San Antonia/ Leyda, Bio Bio and Malleco – all of which continue to attract both new wine drinkers and connoisseurs. In addition to pouring a stunning range of wine, ViniPortugal (Stand 528) will launch its very special On-trade 'Wine by the glass' bursary programme, offering support to those interested in hosting an event that highlights Portuguese wines. Also on hand will be a selection from both established Portugal specialists and newcomers, including Raymond Reynolds, Ehrmanns, Top Selection, Fells, Castas and Charles Hawkins. Don't miss the Wine Institute of California (Stand 713), to discover why California's wines are the ideal match for all kinds of food. Taste and compare a wide range of styles from the Wine Institute as well as from exhibitors including Ernest and Julia Gallo, Napa Valley Vintners and Wallingford Vintners. Bruce Cakebread of Cakebread Cellars will conduct a tutored tasting at 2 & 3pm on Wednesday, 4 February. Wines of Romania (Stand 628) will feature Romania's main exporters, including Agricola Stirbey, Carl Reh Winery, Cramele Recas, SERVE Ceptura and Vinarte, who will show WINE+ visitors what makes wine from Romania so special and versatile with food. French Wines (c/o Sopexa) (Stand 729) provides a 'tour de France' of its own, with the very popular French Wines Discovery Lounge. Visitors will have access to a dedicated tasting area featuring a bespoke on-trade range chosen by a panel of UK experts. Not to be missed are the seminars: at 2pm on Tuesday, 3 February, pubs can learn from The Publican's Adam Withrington how French wines can help maximise profits, and at 4pm, why there's no rosé like Provence rosé to brighten a wine list. And on Wednesday 4 February at 2pm, on-trade specialist Peter McCombie will demonstrate the power of French wines for all types of restaurants. The French region of Beziers Mediterranée (Stand 213) will be showing a range of varietals and styles from the sunny appellations of Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Libron, Vin de Pays des Cotes de Thongue. These are all new to the UK – and with Beziers a direct flight away, they are sure to take off. No WINE+ visitor should underestimate the value of knowing what beer to serve and how to serve it.
