Unprecedented Number Of Entries Received For Cevisama

More than 900 designs have been entered for the CEVISAMA Indi international competitions that are run each year by the International Exhibition for Architectural Ceramic and Bathroom Equipment. 438 designs have been entered for the ceramic tile design competition, including 68 from colleges abroad. Educational establishments from 20 countries have submitted selected work by their students, most notably from Portugal and Germany.

Last year in fact it was a student from the Design College in Caldas da Rainha in Portugal who won third prize in this category.

The number of designs entered for this year's International Design and Technological Innovation in Ceramic Tile competition was 89% up on last year's number, with international entries up 30%. Three prizes will be awarded in this competition, of 3,600, 2,400 and 1,200 euros each.

The International Design and Technological Innovation in Bathroom Equipment competition, on the other hand, has received 469 entries, including 139 from colleges of design in 19 other countries. The number of entrants increased by 68% against last year, with international entries up 40%.

The competition rules set a theme that the designs must adhere to. This year it was "Liquid Dreams": the bathroom as a space for rest, enjoyment and reflection, a return to ancient cultures where bathing is a purifying ritual. The theme meant that the designs had to propose a fresh interpretation of the bathroom for the current century. The prizes for the winners of this competition were 2,500, 2,000 and 1,500 euros. As with the other competition a substantial proportion of entries came from Portuguese and German colleges, with last year's winner being from Matosinhos college in Portugal.

There were also a significant number of entries this year from Latin American colleges, specifically from Mexico, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Venezuela and Colombia. Students in the Czech Republic, Russia and Hungary submitted a number of designs too.

The jury, which is formed by well-known industrial designers, will announce the winners in the last week of January.
