Mobile Zone at IBC2009

Recent advances in mobile technologies and services have opened the door to the delivery of a vast range of broadcast content via an increasing array of mobile devices. This mobile revolution, resulting from the convergence of IT, telecoms and broadcast technologies, is creating vast opportunities for application developers, content providers and technology companies alike. The IBC2009 Mobile Zone will provide the opportunity for these companies to showcase their capabilities at the heart of the broadcast industry's leading international conference and exhibition.

A recent report by RNCOS predicts that the global Mobile TV subscriber base will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 60% during the period from 2007 to 2010. Western Europe is expected to lead the way and to account for the majority of Mobile TV service revenue by 2010.

Now in its fifth year, the IBC Mobile Zone has been created to bring together all the latest advances in technology and applications to demonstrate the possibilities and opportunities arising from this mobile revolution. In addition to showcasing the latest developments in mobile TV and 3G services, the Mobile Zone will feature the latest innovations in mobile devices and explore their impact on the creation, management and delivery of content.

The IBC2009 Mobile Zone will be accompanied by the IBC2009 Mobile Zone Business Briefings to which attendance is free. These briefings will examine some of the issues and opportunities arising from this revolution in broadcast content delivery in further detail and are intended to reinforce and complement the established peer reviewed, paid-delegate IBC Conference.

Commenting on the development of the Mobile Zone at IBC2009, Mike Crimp, COO, IBC said: "We have seen a huge growth in the development of Mobile TV services over the last year and this growth is creating enormous opportunities for both content creators and broadcasters. This whole market is based on tapping the insatiable appetite of consumers for the delivery of high quality broadcast content - anytime, anywhere. It is therefore natural that the industry's leading broadcast event should play the leading role in shaping the agenda for future developments."

The Mobile Zone at IBC2009 is being jointly developed and marketed by IBC, IT Europa and BPL. The IBC2009 exhibition takes place from 11th - 15th September 2009 at the RAI, Amsterdam.
