| Uae Reports Over 14000 Fire Accidents In Five Years Fire prevention and rescue measures are blazing topics appearing high on the agenda of local governments, civil defence and private developers. Helping create this awareness and providing solutions, is the Intersec, the biggest trade show and conference for commercial security, homeland security & policing, fire & rescue, and safety & health outside Europe, which will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 18 to 20, 2009. "UAE has seen more than 14,000 fire accidents from 2002 to date, a sky-scraping figure which calls for finding adequate methods of full-proof safety against fire, protecting human lives and properties, as well as the environment, " according to Sheikh Faisal Khaled Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Emirates Insurance Association (EIA). Over the last 12 months, there have been a number of fire incidents in Dubai, as the pace of construction takes its toll. Under trained workforce, and increasing volume of projects have meant that the problem of fire safety training still persists. "Worldwide more than 80,000 deaths per year, mostly children and elderly, and a loss of assets with 1-3% of the GNP, depending on the country, takes place due to fire, "said Eckhard Pruy, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organizers of Intersec trade fair and conference. Mr. Pruy added, "Consequently the market for fire protection and prevention in the UAE is increasing by more than 6% per year. Major investments in the infrastructure, construction and industry sectors make the Gulf region one of the most responsive areas for sourcing world's latest equipment for fire fighting and rescue services." Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) urges building contractors and their consultants to abide by the standards approved by DCD for the design of fire fighting systems and building fire safety. No designs or drawings submitted by contractors or consultants are checked or approved unless they comply with these standards. "Experts predict a growth of the worldwide market in active and passive fire protection from 35 billion Euro today to about 54 billion Euro in 2015. Major developments will be witnessed in the Middle East. Most important is the development of new technologies and processes, especially with nanotechnologies, and new information and material sciences within the converging markets, " said Ms. Angela Schierholz, Senior Show Manager of Intersec trade fair and conference. Intersec will feature several high profile conferences presenting 70 top class experts from all over the world to discuss the latest issues and topics in the fields of IT Security, Safety & Health, Homeland Security and Fire & Rescue. The fire and rescue stream at the Intersec conference will focus on case studies and lectures on fire fighting and prevention in high rise and super-tall buildings, oil and gas fire prevention, urban search and rescue training, water and line rescue as well as command and control techniques. Intersec trade fair and conference enjoys the ongoing support of numerous trade and government organizations namely Dubai Police, the Dubai Police Academy, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), Build Safe Dubai, and Dubai Civil Defence.
