| Wine & Gourmet Asia 2008 Gourmands and hospitality professionals will gather at the Cotai Strip at CotaiExpo at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel from 5 to 7 November 2008 for Wine & Gourmet Asia 2008. Organized by German trade fairs organizer Koelnmesse, it is a trade show for wine and gourmet foods, hotel and foodservice equipment, supplies and services. Comprising of a trade exhibition, various onsite competitions and events, and an epicurean dinner program, Wine & Gourmet Asia will dazzle participants with its extravaganza. Around 180 exhibitors will present their top-range products and services to the expected 8,000 visitors who will arrive from the neighboring cities. From fine baked goods, gourmet chocolate, ingredients, meat and seafood to foodservice and catering supplies to wine and spirits, there will be something for everyone. One of the biggest exhibitors this year is leading wine, beer, spirits and liquor distributor, Seapower. Besides exhibiting at the trade fair, Seapower is also actively participating in other activities such as being the key sponsor of Asian Cocktail Championship and will be presenting a whisky masterclass. Asian Cocktail Championship will present the best talents in cocktail flairtending and classical cocktail creations. New competing teams will be arriving from India and Vietnam. To upgrade the local hospitality industry, the annual MORS Gold Pin Competition is organized by Macau Institute for Tourism Studies and Tourism Industry of Macao. Local hospitality service staff from the top hotels and restaurants will compete in various segments. The Macau Culinary Alliance Winning Showpiece Display is also a showcase of local talents. Culinary talents will demonstrate their skills and creativity in food decoration and winning pieces will be on display. Last year, the 'Behind the Scenes' – Tour at The Venetian was very wellreceived. The organizers have arranged more tours this year, including an exclusive 'Behind the Stage' – Tour at the Arena, the prestigious concert hall at the Venetian . The Hospitality Trends Forum is a regular side event of Wine & Gourmet Asia which serves as an informative platform for exchange of ideas. Hospitality experts from the American Puccini Group, Hong Kong Disneyland, Langham Hotels, A00 Architecture, and the luxury hotel group, Kempinski, will share valuable insights on hospitality design, food fashion and trends. Culinary and wine masterclasses are not to be missed at a wine and gourmet how. Internationally renowned Master Pâtissier Frederic Bourse will be flying in specially to conduct a DKSH chocolate masterclass. The Wine Society of Macau will present a Portuguese wine class and a whisky asterclass will be hosted by Seapower to add flavor to the events. Continuing on the success of last year, the epicurean dinners will again feature a three-Michelin-starred chef from France – Jean-Michel Lorain whose famous restaurant sits at the entrance to Burgundy. Born into a family of great cooks, Masterchef Lorain has received numerous honors throughout his career in recognition of his know-how in terms of fine cuisine. In 1993, French restaurant guide Gault-Millau proclaimed him Chef of the Year, awarding his cuisine the highest mark of 19.5. Another star of the epicurean program is renowned Portuguese chef and culinary consultant – Vitor Sobral. Masterchef Sobral is known for his unique skill at modernizing traditional Portuguese dishes while keeping the use of Portuguese products, seasoning and flavors. He was also named world's best rice chef in 2006 at a competition organized by international food and wine society, Chaine des Rotisseurs. Masterchef Jean-Michel Lorain will be hosted by Crown Macau while Masterchef Vitor Sobral is participating at the invitation of MGM GRAND Macau. The other partner hotels are The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel and Wynn Macau. The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel will be hosting the Opening Reception to be held on 5 November and the Gala Dinner on 7 November. The epicurean dinner program will be launched on 5 November with an Opening Reception where a buffet of delights is prepared 'live' by the hosting establishments' culinary teams. This exclusive event is by invitation only. The headline of the epicurean program is the not-to-be-missed Gala Dinner on 7 November, where the invited masterchefs will together create an unforgettable evening of great food and fine wine. The event is priced at USD250 per person. The organizers are finalizing the participation of notable wineries and wine masters, more information on the program will be released in the following weeks.
