Eurosun 2008 - Conference on Solar Heating, Cooling and Buildings

Eurosun 2008 - 1st International Conference on Solar Heating, Cooling and Buildings, will take place in the Lisbon Congress Centre, Portugal, 7th to 10th October 2008, organized by SPES – Sociedade Portuguesa de Energia Solar.

For the first time, Eurosun 2008, the biannual Conference of ISES Europe, the European Solar Energy Society, will be focused on solar heating and cooling in buildings, in a joint initiative with the Solar Heating and Cooling Programme of the International Energy Agency.

In Europe the buildings sector accounts for around 40% of the final energy demand (*). Household energy demand is expected to rise more than 10% by 2030, following demographic and lifestyle changes. An even larger rise in demand of 26% is expected to take place at services buildings, reflecting the increasing share of services in modern economies.

The largest fraction of this demand respects water heating and especially, space heating and cooling. Together with energy conservation measures, thermal solar energy systems can directly supply a large part of this demand, while solar photovoltaic and solar thermoelectric systems can supply buildings with clean, renewable electricity.

Eurosun 2008 will be the major scientific event in the area of solar heating, cooling and buildings, with more than 450 communications from countries all around the World. The scientific advances presented will shape the technical solutions needed to meet the increasingly stringent international and European targets on energy efficiency and renewable energy.

In addition Eurosun 2008 will organize an International Exhibition, where the energy efficiency and solar energy Industry will present their last products and innovations to a worldwide audience of professionals and businessman.
