5th Kazakhstan International Tourist Exhibition – AstanaLeisure 2008

On 17-19 September, the Congress Hall in the national capital will be hosting the 5th Jubilee Kazakhstan International Tourist Exhibition – AstanaLeisure 2008. Traditionally, AstanaLeisure will begin the autumn and winter tourist season. The Tourist Exhibition – AstanaLeisure 2008 is organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan and Iteca, an exhibition company of Kazakhstan. Official support is provided by the Astana City Akimat (Administration). Imangali Tasmagambetov, Astana City Akim, underlined, "I am happy to see that this event – AstanaLeisure – is being held in Kazakhstan which possesses a huge tourist potential including unique natural sites, as well as historic and cultural monuments".

Exhibitors will include about 50 companies from China, Czech Republic, France, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Russia, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, and Ukraine.

As far as international exhibitors are concerned, the customary and traditional stands from Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia and Ukraine, will be augmented with separate stands of such resorts popular with the Kazakhstanis as the French Courchevel and Cτte d'Azur, the Red Sea Coast in the United Arab Emirates, as well as romantic and fascinating Italian tourism ..

Kazakhstan regions will also take a worthy place at the exhibition: more than 30 hotels, resorts and health centres will be presented at the stands of oblast akimats and city administrations of Astana and Almaty. Visitors will be able to make a virtual trip to the magnificent slopes of the Trans-Ili Alatau Range, the land of blue lakes, the Great Steppe, the Saki mounds, the Singing Sand-Dunes, and architectural monuments of the Middle Ages.

Tourist Exhibition – AstanaLeisure 2008 sections: Regional Travel Agencies; Tour Operators & Travel Agents; Airlines & Air Agencies; Hotels, Hostels, Health Centres; Air Ticket Reservation & Sales; Transport Agencies; Trade Associations & Organisations; Insurance and Banking Services in Tourism; Information Technologies in Tourism; Environmental Tourism, etc.

According to Yevgeniy Nikitinsky, Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Industry, Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan, the development of Astana results in the increasing number of tourist sites and, importantly, the infrastructure development. The city becomes unique, lasts in the tourists' memory and is very attractive for them. Besides, the growing capital of Kazakhstan is the focus of interest in our country from the world community. Economic activities, investment inflow in production and services, use of the transport potential are directly associated with the formation of an up-to-date infrastructure of the national capital.

By 2009, Astana may become one of the leading tourism centres. It is the next year when the capital is going to host the 18th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation. This decision was made in November 2007, when the Kazakhstan delegation took part in the WTO General Assembly in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. At that time, Kazakhstan joined the 30 tourist countries in the WTO Executive Board, and became the first country ever in the Central Asian region and all of the former Soviet Union to be recognised as that. The unanimous selection of Astana by the General Assembly as the venue for the 18th session means not only a good trust but also a high responsibility before the whole tourist community.

"Today, Astana is the hub of political, economic and cultural life of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The dynamic city has all conditions to become the tourist centre not only of Kazakhstan but also of all Eurasian countries. The city is shaping out its new skyline as the national capital, and this process is enhanced by the new-age architectural techniques and the city planning philosophy. I am sure that this exhibition will provide a powerful incentive for further development of an attractive tourist image of Astana, " says Imangali Tasmagambetov, Astana City Akim.

To date, Iteca of Kazakhstan and its international UK-based partner, ITE Group plc, hold a number of international tourist exhibitions in Turkey (EMITT), Russia (MITT), Ukraine (UITT), Azerbaijan (AITF), Czech Republic (Holiday World), Kazakhstan (KITF, AstanaLeisure, AktauLeisure), etc. The next ITE/ Iteca event on tourism, sports and leisure will be held in 2009: KITF Fair, a major tourist forum in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, on 23-25 April 2009, in Almaty.
