BioFach America 2008: Countdown To Premiere in Boston

It's time again from 16-18 October 2008, when BioFach America invites representatives from the international organic market to its new location in Boston for the first time. The US daughter of the world's exhibition BioFach Nürnberg starts with some impressive growth after the move from Baltimore to Boston and now occupies 2,908 m2 – 33 % more net space. Last year's BioFach America together with the Natural Products Expo East attracted 25, 000 trade visitors. This year, the organizers expect another successful industry get-together on America's east coast with more growth in the number of exhibitors and visitors.

"This year's highlights at BioFach America include the Indian pavilion. We are already looking forward to the first BioFach India in Mumbai from 29 April to 1 May 2009 and are pleased that the Indian subcontinent is presenting its rich treasure of organic products for the first time in a pavilion in Boston, " says Frank Venjakob, Director Events, Nürnberg Global Fairs. "The spectrum of products in the German pavilion is broader than ever this year. Besides exhibitors like Bionade, Logona and Sante, first-time exhibitors in Boston in 2008 include Neumarkter Lammsbräu, organic winegrower Lorenz and Andechser Molkerei Scheitz. We are very proud of this, " adds Frank Venjakob. Altogether 18 German companies are exhibiting in the German pavilion in 2008.

Organic sales in the USA to top 25 billion US dollars in 2008

Sales of organic food and drinks in 2007 are estimated at 20 billion US dollars. Industry experts estimate the total market including non-food at 21.2 billion US dollars – 20 % growth over the previous year. And the demand is growing constantly. Organic food remains the fastest-growing segment in the American food sector. The results of the market researchers at SmallCapSentinel.com, who evaluated data from 1,000 consumers from November 2007 to May 2008, clearly show the dynamic market development towards healthy food. Monthly spending on this rose by 7.7 % from 177 to 191 US dollars in the period under study. Over 47 % of the interviewees spend half their household budget on healthy and natural food. Conclusion of the analysts: "Many traditional products are out due to rising food prices, but not organic food." Another result of the study shows that consumers now no longer regard organic products as luxury goods, but as a major necessity. More and more people are prepared to pay higher food prices for the sake of their health. The forecasts of the market observers are accordingly positive. The Organic Trade Association OTA forecasts sales of more than 25 billion US dollars for organic products in 2008.

Green lifestyle online and on air
Consumer organizations and manufacturers promote the positive image of organic products in the USA and green lifestyle is increasingly present in the virtual world. The Internet platform Organic Consumers Association has informed interested consumers for years. The more the sustainable and health-conscious lifestyle becomes the focus of attention, the more creative the industry's ideas and the larger the number of investors. The recently launched online community greenforgood.com encourages private persons and business people to arrange their everyday life and work in a more ecologically correct way. Also new is the Planet Green television station, which claims to be the first and only 24-hour green lifestyle programme and has reached 50 million homes in 250 hours on-air time up to now. The forums and blogs of the subsidiary Treehugger.com give visitors the opportunity for an interactive exchange of views on sustainability. The twelfth Lohas Forum also shows just how large the range of green lifestyle is. The forum in Boulder, Colorado, in June 2008 was fully booked much to the delight of the organizer Lohas.com.
Besides the seminar programme that starts the day before the exhibition, the supporting programme at BioFach America includes an organic farm tour, which presents best practice examples for interested visitors.
