2008 Launch For P-mec South America Exhibition

Pharmaceutical event organisers CMPi have announced a mid-2008 launch for the South American staging of their Pharmaceutical Machinery and Equipment Convention - P-MEC.

P-MEC South America will be held in Rio de Janeiro alongside the debut of CMPi's sister pharma ingredients event - CPhI South America - on Tuesday 19 - Thursday 21 August 2008. Host venue will be Brazil's newest convention facility, the 16,000 sq. m. "Cidade Nova" complex, which opened in the first week of July.

The twin shows recognize the rapid expansion of South American pharma markets, which are growing at about 13% annually - double the world average. CMPi's new South American events will be staged in Brazil in every second year, alternating with other Latin American host nations.

The event will be the fifth P-MEC in a series closely tracking global expansion of the pharma markets. PMEC is well-established in Europe and China and is now set to follow in India, Japan and South America.

P-MEC was created to meet the needs for a specific pharma machinery, equipment and systems event - but with the critical mass and networking value of the established CPhI brand.

The Convention is focused on the challenge of developing more efficient production routes and systems or increasingly complex healthcare products. Typically, it showcases machinery, plant/facility equipment, instrumentation, filtration systems, automation and packaging.

CMPi's P-MEC Event Manager Hans Stoter comments: Rapid market growth and the corresponding increase in production activity by regional and international companies alike make South America a logical focus for our continuing global expansion of the P-MEC vent family". He continued: "As one of the region's top three markets, with a 30% share and an 18% growth rate, Brazil is the logical host for this first event - which will fittingly be staged in Rio's latest exhibition facility".

The exhibition's August timing is geared to suit the logistics for exhibitors additionally presenting at Europe's P-MEC, CPhI and ICSE 2008 events, held in early October.

P-MEC was first introduced in Europe, alongside the 2005 CPhI Worldwide event. It grew 50% for 2006 in Paris and has doubled to over 60 exhibitors for 2007, in Milan. China's P-MEC was launched in 2006 and achieved over 170 exhibitors this year. P-MEC India will debut in Mumbai this November, as a 10,000 net sq.m.show, with over 200 exhibitors.

Ahead of the P-MEC South America launch in 2008, and as recently announced, the first P-MEC Japan will be staged in April.
