| The Design Annual 2008 Lectures, debates, dance performances, jugglers and acrobats. The complementary programme for The Design Annual, the Showcase for High-end Design, will be offering private and trade visitors plenty of entertainment and variety in Frankfurt am Main from 4 to 7 July 2008. In line with this year's theme "inside: showtime", the spotlight at this interdisciplinary showcase, organised jointly by Messe Frankfurt and their partner Stylepark, will be on design staging and those involved in it. As a result, the third edition of The Design Annual will give curated manufacturers of top international design a diversity of opportunities to show off themselves and a selection of their products. The complementary programme is devoted entirely to staging and presenting techniques, picking up on the theme "inside: showtime". On a stage constructed specifically for The Design Annual in the stand of the Festhalle, famous designers and artists, among them Jerszy Seymour and Paul Cocksedge, will be making guest appearances. British lighting designer Paul Cocksedge, for example, will be talking about his work and his perception of light and design. Jerszy Seymour's performance deals with the different reality levels of showing and looking and examines the relationship between staging and viewer. In addition to designers and artists, the complementary programme will feature "Young Talents", alongside experts and artists from other disciplines. Designer and journalist Markus Frenzl will be organising and presenting the "Chairs on Stage" design fashion show, where selected manufacturers will be sending their products down the runway. On three evenings, American dancer and choreographer Antony Rizzi, who for many years worked with William Forsythe, will be joined by four other dancers, as he takes the lead in a performance conceived specifically for The Design Annual. The designers of the architectural concept for The Design Annual 2008, Tobias Rehberger, one of Germany's most prominent contemporary artists and Claus Richter, an installation and video artist, will also be taking part in the complementary programme. On the opening evening, Rehberger and Richter will not only be speaking and participating in question and answer sessions at debates but will also be showing off their entertaining prowess in a mini magic show. Swedish designer Mats Theselius will be hosting the gala finale, where, after a pre-show casting, he is due to present a design award. The design debate on the event theme "inside: showtime" is set to continue at discussions, debates and lectures. The programme includes, among other things, a "Disney Talk", where Claus Richter's theme will be "entertainment architecture". In addition, Sophie Stigliano, Director of Exhibitions at the New York Center for Architecture will be presenting an "Architecture Talk", which focuses on the impact and purpose of architecture and design in the public area. On all four days, the complementary programme will feature numerous show acts in between the highlights of the main programme. Trio Noaem, probably Germany's best known Bollywood dance ensemble, and Micha Messerman, who together with Russian acrobat Johann Eine, will be offering a mix of travesty, comedy and juggling, are among the acts guaranteed to create a great atmosphere. Among the other show acts on the programme are a giant soap-blowing show, a tap-dancing clown's number and a pantomime. The Design Annual is a discussion-orientated annual event with the higher claim to find and examine processes in society as a whole, which form the breeding ground for the design disciplines. The showcase is aimed at architects, interior designers, leading specialist dealers, property developers, head buyers from companies and building project organisers and, every day from 12 noon to 9 pm, specifically at members of the public. For the first time in 2008, The Design Annual will be taking place over a four-day period as part of the combined Decorate Life fair (4 to 8 July), together with Tendence Autumn + Winter, Collectione Preview Spring + Summer and Outdoor Living. write your comments about the article :: © 2008 Exhibition News :: home page |
