International Maritime Exhibition Posedonia 2008

A memorandum of cooperation on ports development will be signed between Cyprus and Greece during the international maritime exhibition Posedonia 2008, to be held in Athens in June.

Cyprus once again will give a "dynamic, multidimensional and formal presence" at this exhibition represented by the Minister of Communications and Works, Nikos Nikolaides and officials of the Department of Merchant Shipping and the Cyprus Ports Authority.

Representatives of Cyprus' Shipping Chamber and the Shipowners' Union, which represent dozens of companies operating in Cyprus, are also expected to participate in the exhibition.

Posedonia is a significant maritime exhibition of international acclaim, staged in Greece every two years in which more than 1700 companies from 80 countries around the world participate.

The new government of Cyprus, the press release noted, gives great importance to the shipping industry which contributes significantly to the Gross National Product and intends to help develop it further.

To this end, Nikolaides will sign a memorandum of cooperation on ports development, with Greece's Minister of Merchant Shipping, Aegean and Island Policy, George Voulgarakis whom he will meet at the exhibition.

The Cypriot Minister will also come together with the Greek Minister of Transport and Communication, Konstantinos Hatzidakis and the President of Piraeus' Port Organisation.
