Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, HKTDC Food Expo 2008 will be held from 14 – 18 August at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. For the first time, the annual food fiesta, which enjoys overwhelming support, will feature agricultural and food technology. By putting the new zone, Agricultural and Food Technology Zone, in the spotlight, HKTDC Food Expo becomes the first trade platform in Hong Kong to promote this emerging sector in the food and beverage industry. Exhibitors in this sector will showcase items produced with new or specialised agricultural and food technology applications that enhance food quality, increase yield or use healthcare-focused ingredients in an innovative manner.

Rice & Cereal Zone and Tea and Coffee Zone will also be introduced. In addition, the Green & Organic Food Zone will make a welcome return on an enlarged scale. Exhibitors from Australia, Chinese mainland, Canada, Japan, Korea and Vietnam will form their own group pavilions.

Hong Kong is an important trading hub for food and beverage products, as well as food technology and food industry equipment. The Trade Hall will operate on a strictly trade-only basis for the first two days of the expo to offer an effective trading platform for the estimated 200 exhibitors and trade buyers. In 2007, more than 8,500 trade visitors from 69 countries and regions visited Food Expo.

Consumers are always looking for new taste sensations. Opening the Trade Hall up to the general public on the last three days of the expo gives exhibitors a rare opportunity to test-market new products and to receive instant feedback from this huge market sample. Last year, the expo attracted more than 314,100 public visitors. The expo will house nearly 400 exhibitors in the Trade Hall and the Public Hall.

The 19 th edition of HTKDC Food Expo is one of a series of events under the food and health framework. Concurrent with it are HKTDC International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products, Hong Kong International Medical & Health Care Fair and the first edition of HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine Fair.
