Expofranquicia-08 Turns Madrid

Once again, the Franchising Trade Fair, Expofranquicia 08 is concentrating the attention of professionals and investors interested in this business model, as it is presenting one of the most important business platforms in Europe. An edition that has reached its fourteenth edition with the best possible figures: 279 exhibitors, 300 trademarks and 7,000 net square metres. Some figures that give strength to the show's permanent growth. The trade meeting, organised by IFEMA, takes place between 22nd and 24th May 2008, at Hall 10 of Feria de Madrid.

Expofranquicia features wide-ranging representation of the franchise segments, offering a true vision of this industry: travel agencies, the food industry, consulting companies, beauty and cosmetics, decoration, financing, photography, computers, the hotel and catering trade, jewellery and fashion jewellery, printing, fashion, leisure and education, stationery and office material, drugstore products, vehicle services, property services, dry-cleaning services and other specialised service sectors. Among others, we must highlight brand such as Artesanos Camiseros, Body Factory, Carlin, Dehesa Santa María, Heineken, La Retoucheire de Manuela, Lease Plan, Lienzo de los Gazules, Serhogar System, Signarama Spain, Viajes Barceló, Zena Grupo Restauración...

One of the most outstanding features of this edition is the high level of foreign participation, thus strengthening the fair's positioning on the international fair circuit. On this occasion, the fair features the participation of some 22 companies from 10 countries: Germany, Andorra, Brazil, USA, France, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal and Romania.

This considerable representation by foreign businesses is the result of the intense international promotional campaign, developed by EXPOFRANQUICIA and aimed at investors. In this respect, the fair has carried out a number of different marketing and advertising measures, targeting various sectors of interest.

In addition to this, the show includes the participation of the Brazilian Franchise Association (ABF), which will present franchises from Brazil interested in the Spanish market at EXPOFRANQUICIA. The Brazilian brands are Bob's, Carmen Steffens, Global Franchise, Livraria Nobel, Showcolate and Wizard. Likewise, on 23rd May the Economic Service of the French Embassy, together with the French Franchise Federation will organise an information seminar on the franchise market in Spain. Furthermore, the Mexican consulting firm, Alcazar y Aranday is organising a meeting on the 23rd to explain the expansion opportunities in Mexico and in Central America.

Moreover, visitors to EXPOFRANQUICIA will also have the chance to attend a Seminar, on 22nd May, regarding the franchise market in Russia and Vietnam. The meeting has been organised by ICEX, the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade. The action is aimed at Spanish franchisers from all sectors, associations from the sector and service suppliers. The requirements for successfully setting up a franchise in these two countries will be explained at this meeting.

The commercial success of EXPOFRANQUICIA responds to a good situation of the economic segment it represents. According to the Report "The franchise in Spain 2007", prepared by the Spanish Franchisers Association, AEF, the franchise system in Spain achieved a turnover of 24, 676, 923 euros last year, which means a growth of 5% over the previous year of 2006, and shows the good health that this business model is displaying.

With regard to the most important sectors within the world of franchising, foodstuffs and catering once again head the table in terms of the turnover they generate. We might also highlight the current situation within the property sector, where the 41 franchises that were operating at the end of the year 2006 have maintained their operations, although they have reduced their number of establishments by 656.

When it comes to evaluating these increases, Xavier Vallhonrat, the President of the AEF, has stated that "once again this year, the franchising system has shown that it has reached maturity in Spain and is completely consolidated. In spite of the crisis we are currently going through, franchising has not been affected as a whole. Quite the contrary, in fact, it has emerged stronger".

Coinciding with the trade exhibition, EXPOFRANQUICIA is holding the MADRID FRANCHISING FORUM for the second year running. Visitors will therefore have the chance to take part in an intensive programme of Technical Conferences, aimed at the training and pooling of ideas by the professionals from this sector.

These Conferences will analyse the current situation within this economic sector, based on the perspectives of a number of outstanding experts from the world of franchising. Visitors will also be able to attend a series of roundtables, debates, conferences, personalised consultations, etc ..., an entire series of meetings and events that aim to offer an in-depth insight into the current state of the franchise sector in Spain, thus serving as a debating forum for the industry.

These events will be free of charge and are organised by EXPOFRANQUICIA, in conjunction with MundoFranquicia Consulting. They will take place at the auditorium provided in Hall 10 and in Room S10-15 located at the same Hall.

The presence of franchises and brands will be strengthened once again by the renewed support of the industry's main representative body: the Spanish Franchisers' Association, AEF. The aim of the AEF is to defend the interests of franchised operators in relation to both legal matters and general advice. This association will take advantage of its presence at the trade fair in order to provide support services for franchised operators, as well as the organisation of general training courses. It even channels subsidies and grants to beneficiaries. The 14th edition of the Franchise Trade Fair, EXPOFRANQUICIA 08, will open its door from 10.00 a.m. through to 8.00 p.m., between 22nd and 24th May. The entry price is 10 euros.
