Ninth Annual Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminar and Exposition

The Extrusion Showcase at the Ninth Annual International Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminar and Exposition (ET '08) Tuesday, May 13 through Friday, May 16, 2008 in Orlando, Florida, USA, will present an extraordinary selection of semifabricated and finished products made with aluminum extrusions. Each design featured reflects the unique advantages of extruded aluminum.

"This year, we are very pleased to announce that we have some exciting designs utilizing extruded aluminum that will be supplied from designers around the world, " noted Rand Baldwin, CAE, ET Foundation President. Some of the companies that have agreed to display their products include Conservatek Industries, Inc., Total Structures, Inc., NASA/The Boeing Company, Terra Group, Hydro Building Systems GmbH, and VistaWall.

Two designs of particular interest are the International Space Station (ISS) handrail produced by NASA/The Boeing Company and the Gorlov Helical Turbine (GHT) produced by the Terra Group. The handrail is one of the most important elements of an astronaut's space walk. The aluminum extruded handrail is what keeps the astronaut connected to the ISS while working on a spacewalk. Extruded aluminum tubing is also used for the truss structures that link together the ISS and is ideal for space applications because of its mechanical and visual properties.

The GHT has the potential to revolutionize the hydropower industry to produce clean efficient energy, which shows its "green" potential. Aluminum is an ideal material candidate for hydro-powered turbine because of its non-corrosive properties and environmental sustainability.

The Extrusion Showcase is on the move this year and will be taking center stage at the ET Expo at ET '08. It has been relocated to the middle of the ET Expo floor. "By moving the Showcase to the middle of the ET Expo, professionals from around the world easily can see what spectacular designs have been created using aluminum extrusions, " noted Baldwin. In addition, exciting applications of aluminum profiles from the ET Foundation's Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition sponsored by Hydro Aluminum North America also will be on display.
