The Department of Export Promotion (DEP), the Ministry of Commerce, together with, the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) and the world-class German event organizer Koelnmesse, are all ready to host THAIFEX – World of food ASIA 2008, which is expected to be one of the grandest and most significant food expositions ever held in Asia. The event will take place between May 21st-25th, 2008, at the Challenger 2-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani on a gigantic venue of over 40,000 sq.m. and will serve as an international platform for the very best in food products, beverage, food-producing technology and food-related services Thailand has to offer. The event will also contribute greatly to steering Thailand to become a food-producing and food-exporting nation.

Mr. Rachane Potjanasuntorn, DEP Director-General, stated that, "Undoubtedly, THAIFEX – World of food ASIA 2008 will be one of the grandest and most significant food expositions in Asia. It is organized by the outstanding partnership of the Department of Export Promotion, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the world-class German event organizer Koelnmesse. The event aims to show the world Thailand's capabilities in becoming one of the world's most significant food-producing countries, as well as, to promote the country as a center of international food fairs and food-related technologies and services in Asia-Pacific."

"Last year's event was indeed an overwhelming success with almost 100,000 international visitors and as much as 3,000 Million Baht worth of immediate purchase transactions. This has paved the way for even more international exhibitors to participate in this year's event. They are from both within and outside Thailand, such as from England, the United States of America, Switzerland, France, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, Turkey, Australia, Russia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam. Currently, over 1,100 international companies will be exhibiting their food-related innovations in over 2,100 booths.", added Mr. Rachane.

Mr. Rachane further noted that, "THAIFEX – World of food ASIA 2008 is expected to offer a one-stop shopping experience for the very best in food products from Thailand. It is truly a grand event not to be missed by buyers, importers, exporters, wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and businesspeople from the food industry, especially those wishing to establish business connections with leading Thai food entrepreneurs whose reputation is highly regarded worldwide."

The comprehensive showcase will comprise the following. 'Food Catering' presents a range of modern kitchen appliances with sophisticated technologies, as well as, the service businesses in the food industry. 'Food Technology' showcases advanced machinery used in food production. 'Hospitality Services' displays hotel equipment and provides helpful advice on hotel businesses. 'Retail and Franchise' offers consultation on retailing technologies and restaurant franchising in overseas markets

There are also many other interesting activities especially for food industry professionals. Such activities include the 'Food of Thailand' exhibition which focuses on food safety measures; the 'Design in Thailand' exhibition which showcases many innovative food packaging designs; and the 'Halal Food' exhibition. Additionally, there will be interesting seminars on various topics such as 'Exporting Thai Food Products to Overseas Markets', 'Importing Organic Products into the U.K.', 'Food Safety and Food Technology', 'International Food Trends' and 'Food for Health'.
