| The Annual BAPCO Conference and Exhibition The annual BAPCO Conference and Exhibition attracts over 1200 delegates and visitors from across the civil protection sector in the UK, Europe and internationally. Visitors include professionals from ambulance, emergency medical services, health care trusts, fire and rescue, police, defence, local authorities, other law enforcement organisations, public utilities, central government, volunteer organisations, transport, civil contingency responders and emergency management. The event takes place on Tuesday 22nd to Thursday 24th April 2008 at the Business Design Centre, Islington, London and this year will open for the first time with a half day TETRA Association Workshop. The workshop will address TETRA applications and innovations and offers delegates the opportunity to influence the future development of the technology. The workshop is included in the full two and a half day BAPCO Conference delegate package and is free to all TETRA Association members. The theme for the 2008 BAPCO Conference is "Integrated ICT for Civil Contingency Response" and aims to address the growing number of challenges facing organisations with responsibility for civil contingency response and management. A wide-ranging conference programme includes sessions on the response to the Glasgow Bombings, effective integration for Multi-Agency emergency response, the FiReControl Project, the 2007 Gloucestershire floods and WiMAX / Wireless cities in the context of terrorism. The issue of interoperability and ICT integration is central to the conference sessions. Admiral Lord West of Spithead, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Home Office responsible for Security and Counter Terrorism, will deliver the Keynote Address at the Opening Dinner at The Brewery on Chiswell Street in the City of London on Tuesday 22nd April. Visitors to the accompanying exhibition have free access to case study presentations in the Showcase Theatre and the opportunity to learn from the 130 suppliers showcasing proven technologies currently supporting the work of emergency planners and civil contingency responders. The event also provides an insight into the future structure of inter-agency communications, new technologies that will facilitate and support this evolutionary process, the first view of emerging technologies and solutions that will shape operations and support all civil contingency professionals in their day to day responsibilities and are sufficiently flexible to enable a seamless transition to provide an effective response to, management of and recovery from, major incidents.
