Design Plus Award For 32 products To Be Presented at Light+Building

Light+Building, International Trade Fair for Architecture and Technology, will be presenting outstanding and particularly innovative design at the Frankfurt Fair & Exhibition Centre from 6 to 11 April 2008. A special show there in Hall 4.2 (Stand G.41) will feature 32 products which have received the Design Plus Award. A total of 187 products were submitted for this Messe Frankfurt competition, half of them from abroad − which clearly shows the international nature of this prize. Presentation of prizes will take place at 2.00 p.m. on 6 April in the exhibition area.

Messe Frankfurt had called on all exhibitors of Light+Building to enter products with a plus in design quality to them. To be eligible for the competition, products had to have been on the market for a maximum of two years, or their market launch had to be immediately pending. Once again this competition at Light+Building was run for Messe Frankfurt by the German Design Council, Germany's national centre of expertise in design.

"Through its award-winning product an exhibitor can gain a high profile among a world-wide public during Light+Building and attract a large circle of potential customers. I know from my own work that manufacturers actively use the prize for advertising purposes", says Kay Behrendt, managing director of the Berlin lighting store Mösch and member of the Design Plus Jury, describing the value of this seal of quality.

All products entered were assessed by a jury of international experts on five criteria: design quality, choice of materials, technical and ecological quality, and overall conception. The jurors gave awards to 22 products in the lighting sector and ten products in the electrical engineering / house and building automation sector.

The jury of five consisted of the following experts on the industry Kay Behrendt, Mösch GmbH & Co. KG (lighting store), Berlin, Philipp Bitzer, editor of Wohnrevue, Urdorf, Switzerland, Jutta Blocher, Blocher Blocher Partners – Architecture and Design, Stuttgart, Rolf Derrer, Licht + Szenografie, Zurich, Marc Sandler, novus s.r.l., Milan.

This competition by Messe Frankfurt is one of the design competitions in Germany. Since 1983 the prize has been awarded to products characterised not just by a high-quality appearance but by their functionality too. The prize is offered at various fairs. Apart from Light+Building, it is offered at Ambiente, ISH and Material Vision.
