Nordic Travel Fair Matka-2008

A larger number of international visitors than ever before is expected to attend the Nordic Travel Fair Matka, which is being held at the Helsinki Fair Centre on 17–20 January 2008. Travel to Finland has been growing strongly in recent years and the number of nights spent by foreign visitors in July increased by 2% from the previous year.

The Finnish Fair Corporation's and the City of Helsinki Tourist and Convention Bureau's joint Meet Finland programme is being arranged for the second time in conjunction with the Nordic Travel Fair. Its purpose is to increase international travel organisers' awareness of Finland's potential and to strengthen the status of the Matka fair as the most significant international travel-related event in the entire Baltic Sea region.

The second-floor halls at next year's Nordic Travel Fair will be dedicated to motorhome and caravan travel companies as well as other exhibitors and programme venues. The Caravan World section includes the newest models being exhibited by importers and sellers of motorhomes and caravans in addition to the merchandise of equipment vendors.

The Active Holidays area will include an exclusive Golf Destinations section, which will house presentations of golf resorts in different countries as well as exhibitors who specialise in golf travel. The section's stage will offer visitors a high-quality programme of visual events; the programme for the Traveller theme day, which was launched at the previous Travel Fair, will be presented on this stage. The travel kitchen will demonstrate how to combine voyages and gourmet cooking, while the custom section presents a peek at how well-known designers envision a new, pimped up look for caravans and motorhomes.

In addition to a comprehensive review of domestic destinations, no less than 56 countries from around the world have already been included in the programme. Oman, Panama, Slovakia and Vietnam as well as the exotic Seychelles and Maldives island destinations of the Indian Ocean are for the first time setting up exclusive stands. The list of countries returning to our fair contains some pleasant surprises, such as Austria, the Czech Republic and Malta.
