| Sydney's 2007 Australian Jewellery Fair The timing for Sydney's 2007 Australian Jewellery Fair has been moved to a week earlier than this year's late-August date to avoid a major international event that will have a massive impact on the city affecting airports, restaurants, commuter services and accommodation. In 2007, Australia will play host to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC), an event that sees world leaders including US President George W Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin arriving in Sydney. While the main meeting will be held in early September, from August 23 most available venues will be taken over to build up and stage early specific meetings. This means delegates will start arriving from that date. As an example of the impact on the city, the USA is planning to send 5, 000 delegates – and this is only one of the countries attending – and, as well, there is the huge media contingent to consider. The Australian Jewellery Fair will still be held at the Sydney Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, although the date change has necessitated a move to different halls. This is purely a one-off situation for 2007 with the 2008 fair returning to its regular timing and halls. The New South Wales and Federal Governments are already in discussions with industry groups to declare a public holiday at the time to ensure the smooth running of the APEC forum. This move underpins the decision taken regarding the jewellery fair. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Exhibition News :: home page |
