Computex Taipei 2007

Computex Taipei 2007, the computer trade show in Asia and the second-largest in the world, has now entered its third day, with organizers promising the show will become the world's leading platform for the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.

According to organizers, the exhibition is aimed at providing buyers with products of the highest quality. The show is ranked alongside CeBIT Germany as the world's top two information and communication technology (ICT) events.

COMPUTEX TAIPEI opened Tuesday for a five-day run with more than 1, 300 domestic and international exhibitors showing off their latest products. They are arriving at a time when the global technology industry is recovering slowly from last year's slump, caused by high stockpiles due to weaker sales of computers and cellphones.

The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), one of two main organizers, estimated that over 130, 000 visitors and buyers will attend the annual exhibition, whose 2, 926 booths will occupy all three halls of the Taipei World Trade Center as well as the Taipei International Convention Center and some suites in Grand Hyatt Taipei and the Taipei 101 building.

Nearly all companies having to do with the IT industry in Taiwan are taking part in the show, displaying a wide range of products and solutions. A focus of this year's show is ultra-portability and wireless connectivity, as consumers demand more mobility from their computing devices.

Consumers' need for devices stressing portability has driven developers to make PCs smaller, smarter and more powerful. At the same time, chipmakers and components makers have designed products to suit computers with small form factors.

Many exhibitors are also showcasing their wireless solutions, from Wi-Fi phones and devices to WiMAX base stations, in their continued effort to meet the needs of different types of professionals for mobility.
