| Environmental Fairs Brno Stands of exhibitors and the latest technologies alone do not make a fair. Visitors to the Environmental Fairs Brno, which will be held on 29 – 31 May, will also find topical information on water and waste management and other important environmental topics. The key event of the professional programme will be a three-day international conference devoted to topical issues of the environment and water management divided into a number of subject sections. Funding will be the topic of seminars called "Accountancy and Reporting of Sustainable development at a microeconomic and macroeconomic level" and "Possibilities of drawing funds from the new Environment Operation Programme for 2007 – 2013. This part of the conference is intended for mayors, state administration, businesspeople, investors, the banking sector and other parties interested. Much room will be left for waste management, which is this year's highlighted topic. Discussions will be held for instance on biodegradable waste, storage of waste and other associated issues. A seminar focused on the implementation of the directive on water policy is intended for water managers and associated branches and is directly connected with problems of river basins. Among other topics of the conference are e.g. The EU Energy Conception, Integrated Register of Contamination and IPPC focused on the future development of integrated prevention at the EU level. The conference will also deal with topical present issues, such as climate change and the Kjóto protocol. Energy is a crucial issue the urgency of which is increasing in association with the decreasing supply of natural resources and discussions about the impact on the environment. Related with this issue is the increasing importance of safety, which concerns areas such as securing supplies and safe situation of the resource areas. At the conference Alexandr Vondra, the vice-premier, Václav Bartůška, the energy ambassador of the Czech Ministry for the Environment and Dana Drábová, Chairwoman of the State Office for Nuclear Safety, will take the floor. Karen Choe, the first secretary of the USA Embassy in Prague, will introduce the energy policy of the USA. The 6th year of practical flood control demonstrations "Flood Control Brno" belongs to the accompanying programme. This unique European project is in fact an information and training centre for the state administration and local government bodies and also for owners of real estate in flood endangered areas near large watercourses. In 2007 the main topic is to be the "dynamic effects of water". Demonstrations of work during floods will be staged in a special pool. In the neighbouring contact centre all interested partied will have the opportunity to attend professional training and lectures on the given topic.
