| Ecobuild Ecobuild coming up at London's Earls Court on 27 February – 1 March 2007. This event started life in 2004 as a small 'green buildings' conference at the Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. Three years on, with 'climate change' and 'sustainability' making daily, front-page news, it's firmly established at London's Earls Court and is the biggest sustainable design and construction event in the UK, hosting hundreds of exhibitors and a staggering information programme of over 60 seminars, all free to attend. With construction the single largest user of material resources in the economy, generating 100 million tonnes of waste every year, it's little wonder that the sector finds itself with an obligation to play its part in creating more environmentally responsible ways of building and a more sustainable built environment……and it's the self builders and commissioners who are leading the way. Responsible for a significant proportion of new house builds every year, self builders are innovators. Typically prepared to push the boundaries of design, use innovative and unusual materials and make sustainability a key part of their project, this influential group - 25% of all detached houses and 15% of all houses are built by self builders and self commissioners – is pioneering green building in the UK. Highlights of the programme include The Great Materials Debate in which the case for the sustainability of a variety of materials – wood, steel, masonry, concrete and plastic – is made by a series of proposers and expert witnesses who are in turn challenged by the Chair, Andy Butler, Project Director at Stanhope, and members of the audience before each material is put to the vote. This promises to be a lively session and a fascinating output. Those looking for detailed information on a particular subject won't be disappointed. With sessions ranging from reuse and recycling, green roofs and sustainable architecture to microrenewables and intelligent building systems for energy efficiency, there's more than enough here to satisfy the greenest self-builder. The exhibition floor is packed with exhibitors offering a huge range of sustainable construction products - natural materials, water management, insulation/energy efficiency and micro generation, it's all at Ecobuild. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Exhibition News :: home page |
