| HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition Systems engineers from more than 80 health information technology companies gathered in Chicago to participate in the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) North America 2007 Connectathon. There, they tested the ability of their applications to share patient data within and across hospitals and healthcare systems. Initiatives in the U.S. and around the world are striving to enable the exchange of electronic health records (EHRs) across networks of providers to improve care delivery. Through IHE, the physician community and the healthcare IT industry are implementing standards-based solutions to make this possible. The 2007 Connectathon also focused on educating healthcare organizations, health information exchanges, government contracting decision makers and other end users on interoperability and information sharing. It featured presentations and panel discussions by key leaders in deploying nationwide health information networks, including John Loonsk, M.D., Director of Interoperability, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology; Alisa Ray, Executive Director, Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology; and Dennis Giokas, CTO, Canada Health Infoway. During the Connectathon, IHE also announced that it intends to launch a Quality Domain to address the infrastructure needed to share information relevant to quality improvement. The Domain will be sponsored by HIMSS, RSNA, ACC and the American Heart Association. A teleconference will take place February 21, 2007, at 1 p.m. Central to introduce the initiative and share information with organizations interested in participating in the Domain's development. write your comments about the article :: © 2007 Exhibition News :: home page |
