"Reisepavillon" - International Fair for Alternative Travel

High up and far away – from 2nd till 4th February 2007 the 17th "Reisepavillon" International Fair for Alternative Travel takes visitors to the Alps, Africa and many other dream destinations, when once again around 300 exhibitors from Germany and abroad present a vast number of alternative holidays and invite visitors to a short holiday break in Hall 2 at Hannover Exhibition Grounds. Travel trade professionals and holiday-seekers alike will find many practical tips and background information for their dream destinations, and plenty of important facts on the principles and practice of sustainable travel.

The focus on 'Environmentally Friendly Travel in the Alps' looks at protected peaks and glaciers, farm holidays and mountain hiking in harmony with nature and the local people. Communities and regions in the Alpine countries, holiday operators specialising in close-to-nature recreation and cultural experience, and nature conservation associations and reserves in the Alps show their alternatives to the destructive mass tourism of recent decades. The day before the fair starts, professionals from holiday destinations, conservation areas, transport operators and holiday companies will already be discussing offers to enable Alpine fans to tread lightly on the environment of their holiday area and get around by 'soft tourism' means.

The second focus theme takes examples from Africa to highlight the opportunities and problems of tourism in developing and transformation countries, and at the same time aims to awaken curiosity in other cultures and stimulate contact with people and the natural world in the diverse regions of Africa. Working with development organisations, regional tourism institutions and travel operators, Reisepavillon has created a fascinating and informative palette of multimedia shows, travellers' tales and specialist events on Fair Trade and Ecotourism marketing.

Reisepavillon is again happening parallel to the ABF leisure and consumer goods fair, to attract visitors who have hardly given a thought to sustainable tourism to this fair for alternative travel. Cinema and culture, cuisine and climbing wall, activity offers and fun and games for children complete the Reisepavillon programme.
