The European Event for Electronic System Design & Test

DATE, Europe's premier conference and exhibition for electronic system design, automation and test, has, yet again, received all-time record submissions to the conference programme. For the 2007 event, which takes place in the Nice Acropolis from April 16 th to 20 th, a record 933 submissions were received for review by the members of the Technical Programme Committee, chaired by Jan Madsen. The number of papers submitted has again increased over DATE 06 and is the highest number of papers ever submitted. DATE is a truly international event, and it received submissions from the five continents and more than forty countries.

One of the main strengths of the conference is the high number of submissions allows for high quality coverage of design, design automation and test topics, from the system-level to the integrated circuit level. The areas of Multi Processor & Network on Chip, Simulation and Validation, and Power Estimation and Optimization received the highest number papers this year, with Network on Chip looking to be a particular "hot topic" at DATE 07.

The plenary keynote speakers, invited by General Chair Rudy Lauwereins, are Tohru Furuyama-san, Toshiba, who will present a vision towards future consumer applications, and thus a vision towards future platforms and extracting the requirements for supporting design and test tools, and Alan Naumann, CEO, CoWare, will start from these requirements and elaborate on which tools are now available, and which ones will have to be developed in the field of system level design and test.

Ubiquitous Communication & Computation. This Special Focus day is organized by Petri Liuha, Nokia Research Center, Finland and will focus on applications, architectures and programming models for ubiquitous computation, security and trust for ubiquitous communication, as well as on design, verification and testing of ubiquitous systems. It will also investigate the influence of the changing business models in this field on the design requirements.

Spase & Avionics. This Special Focus day is organized by Sylvain Prudhomme, Airbus, France and Erick Lansard, Alcatel Alenia Space, France and will focus on technology transfer from and to the space and aeronautics industries for Embedded Systems. It aims at raising awareness of the overall embedded systems community about the technology transfer and industrialisation process in the space and aeronautics industries and gives an indication of what is generally missing between R&D and product development.
