| Samsung Future Unlimited Executive Summit A convergence of functionality between consumer electronics and personal computing will drive greater demand for both PCs and consumer electronics, a key AMD executive will tell a Samsung executive conference this week in San Jose. In a presentation entitled, "Where PCs Meet Consumer Electronics" Menard will point to full-featured PCs providing advanced multimedia functionality, powered by AMD microprocessors and incorporating Samsung Semiconductor DRAM, to illustrate accelerating convergence between the computer and CE sectors. Among several visionary concepts to be cited by Menard is the hybrid set-top-box that connects to a home PC to expand the user experience and stimulate greater demand for both computation and CE applications. Easy-to-use home media servers will be another concept Menard will discuss, one that would allow users to quickly access stored multi-media content from a variety of CE devices in the home. A combined set-top box and PC is yet another potential concept to be discussed. Menard also will assess opportunities for IC designers and manufacturers being created by the convergence of traditional PC functionality and CE applications. He will call for further steps to make these devices even more user-friendly, advocate higher levels of quality and promote increased bandwidth. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Exhibition News :: home page |
