| Penthera Extends Mobile Broadcast Software for World Markets Penthera Technologies, Inc., a software provider for mobile broadcast TV and multimedia, announced support for additional variations of the Digital Video Broadcast - Handheld (DVB-H) mobile broadcast standards. Now supporting multiple mobile broadcast signal formats, including those that use H.264 media encoding, Penthera can address the needs of additional mobile TV broadcasters and operators worldwide. Multiple vendors who will be in the IBC 2006 Mobile Zone this week in Amsterdam, including Axcera, DiBcom, Frontier Silicon, and Siano Mobile Silicon, are collaborating with Penthera, some of whom are demonstrating Penthera's latest enhancements on various, multi-vendor platforms over UHF and L-Band frequencies. The DVB-H CBMS standard provides a structure for mobile broadcast service parameters such as video encoding, audio encoding, access and content protection, and file/mediacast transport protocols. For various technical and business reasons, broadcasters, operators, and vendors have opted to deploy different variants of this standard. While many manufacturers are surprised by the multiple implementations of a 'standard', they are pleased that firms such as Penthera are creating multimode software solutions so that designs and operations for multiple customers and regions can be simplified with a single middleware solution. This multi-mode support greatly simplifies the business, technical and operational issues of component and device manufacturers who seek economies of scale in a global market. With software that supports multiple mobile broadcast implementations, manufacturers can reduce their time-to-market, along with their development risks and operational costs. As a global software provider, Penthera is extending its unique mobile broadcast offering that includes advertising insertion, interactivity, filecasting, metering and branding to support the multiple implementations of the DVB-H CBMS standard, Penthera's multi-mode software suite includes Penthera Broadcast Center(TM), a service system deployed at a broadcast head-end; Penthera Viewer, a mobile client application and middleware that provides a Virtual Set Top Box(TM) in the palm of one's hand; and Penthera Broadcast Foundation(TM), a Mobile-Broadcast-in-a-Box(TM) solution for test, evaluation and demonstration purposes. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Exhibition News :: home page |
