DTS Introduces Improved Performance in Broadcast Environments

DTS, Inc. and technology partner Linear Acoustic Inc. are launching a series of hardware tools designed to substantially improve performance in broadcast audio contribution, distribution and emission workflows at IBC 2006, 8-13 September, in Amsterdam. These are all based around the implementation of DTS' Coherent Acoustics superior compression algorithm by Linear Acoustic, as embodied in the StreamStacker-HD series of products, and known as e2.

These tools provide solutions to the problems associated with compression in the production chain, and enable new and improved approaches to audio production workflow. e2 overcomes all of the major problems associated with compressed audio transport mechanisms in the production environment.

DTS and Linear Acoustic will be demonstrating the full suite of processing products within the e2 production, contribution and distribution chain on the DTS stand at IBC (Stand no. 1.556). Principal among these is the StreamStacker-HD(TM) High Density Audio Distribution System. Using advanced multiplexing and coding technologies, StreamStacker-HD enables up to 16 channels of PCM and or emission coded audio, with audio metadata and user-definable auxiliary data, to be carried over a single AES/EBU-format digital pair.

The overall theme of DTS' presence at IBC 2006 with its technology partners Linear Acoustic and Coding Technologies, is the provision of a superior end-to-end broadcast audio solution for HDTV -- providing improved workflows for multi-channel audio in the production chain, and high efficiency, high quality emission with the transcoding of aacPlus to DTS Coherent Acoustics in the STB.
