EGYPT – NEW RAILWAY CONTRACT NGE SIGNED THE CONTRACT TO BUILD 330 KM OF HIGH-SPEED LINE IN EGYPT

THIS SUCCESS CONFIRMS THE COMPANY'S STRATEGY OF INTERNATIONALIZATION, WHICH ENABLES IT TO PARTICIPATE IN DEVELOPING THE 6TH LARGEST HIGH-SPEED RAIL NETWORK IN THE WORLD.

NGE, with its rail expertise subsidiary TSO, has signed a contract to build 330km of highspeed line in Egypt. This new contract reinforces the French Group’s position as a key player in the construction of international infrastructure projects. The laying of 330km of track in Egypt allows NGE to beat its own record, set in France in 2017 when it laid 320km on the South East Atlantic line.

In sum, NGE has actively participated in installing 2, 500 km of high-speed lines around the world. Operating in 17 countries, the Group has been present in Egypt since 1981 and has completed several rail projects, such as lines 1 & 3 of the Cairo metro, the renewing of tracks on the Banha-Port Said regional line and more recently with the delivery of the LRT 10th of Ramadan, a new regional train line linking Cairo to the new Egyptian capital. NGE has once again been awarded a project that will provide a structure for the development of infrastructure in one of its historical markets. This new rail project in Egypt will link 60 cities across the country, increase freight traffic and ensure approximately 500 million journeys per year.

NGE will provide its expertise, human and material resources to local companies Orascom and Arab Contractors. NGE’s capacity to implement planning adapted to the client’s objectives, as well as its mastery of all aspects of high-speed project management, enabled it to win this contract. Current world speed records have been broken on ballasted tracks laid by the Group: 513.3 km/h on the French Atlantic highspeed line in 1990 and 574.8 km/h on the French East-European line in 2007.

Works will start in early 2023 and will require the mobilization of up to 500 people on the site. The latter includes the installation of a total of 330 km of double track and more than 100 turnouts between the cities of Ain Al Sokhna and Borg El Arab, through the October 6 City.
