| China’s latest engineering marvel makes the Yellow River sparkle at night Philips Lighting announced the illumination of the Binhe Yellow River Bridge in Yinchuan, China. The stunning double-cable suspension bridge has been spectacularly illuminated using dynamic LED lighting by Philips Lighting, and spans the entire width of the Yellow River – the sixth longest river system in the world. At night, citizens can be amazed by a water curtain that is illuminated in rainbow colors, giving the impression that a waterfall is running right under the bridge. The iconic new landmark connects the city center of northern China's Yinchuan City with the Binhe New Area. The Binhe Yellow River Bridge's unique architectural design is complemented by Philips Color Kinetics technology that provides architectural lighting effects and gives the flexibility to change up to 16.7 million colors. Compared to conventional lighting, the new long-life LED system by Philips Lighting may deliver up to 75 percent energy savings as well as saving on operation and maintenance costs. After 28 months of construction, the Binhe Yellow River Bridge was opened to traffic April 2016. The lighting installation was completed April 2017. The bridge is 6,587 meters long and eight lanes wide, supported by six 98-meter-tall towers, each with cables that span to a total of 218 meters. write your comments about the article :: © 2017 Construction News :: home page |
