| Greenery & Landscaping China: New greenery trade fair in Shanghai  From 7 to 9 June 2017, the Shanghai World Expo Convention & Exhibition Center (SWEECC) will be transformed into a meeting place for China's green professionals. Decision-makers from China, who plan, construct and maintain gardens, parks, open spaces, sports facilities, playgrounds and golf courses, will then be informing themselves at Greenery & Landscaping China about the latest products and services. From 2017, NürnbergMesse China will be the organizer of this trade fair. This event has already existed since 2003 under another name and is now being developed further together with the founding father, the Shanghai Landscape Architecture and Gardening Trade Association (SLAGTA). The event's cycle is annual, this year 200 international exhibitors are expected. We asked Darren Guo, Managing Director NürnbergMesse China (pictured), among other things why European firms are benefiting from participating at the fair.Mr Guo, how was the decision arrived at to stage a trade fair for horticulture and landscape gardening in China? "The green market in China, especially the public greenery sector, simply offers enormous potential. In 2014, the urbanization quota in the country was around 55%. In the next few years it is expected to grow further. At the same time, the need for a greater quality of life, in other words also for more greenery in the cities, is increasing. The market development in the horticulture and landscape gardening sector is foreseeable: currently Chinese Tier 1 cities such as for example Shanghai are increasingly investing in the creation and preservation of existing green areas and focusing key attention on automation. As a result, the demand for machinery, work equipment, but also construction materials in particular is increasing. Tier 2 and 3 cities such as Chengdu are ready following suit and intensifying their horticulture and landscape gardening programs. In this connection, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People's Republic of China (MOHURD), green spaces in Chinese cities today already occupy over 2 million hectares; of this 614, 000 hectares are accounted for by public parks and gardens facilities. Total turnover involving horticulture and landscape gardening products will reach around 327 billion US Dollars by 2018. This is revealed by a study conducted by the Conlumino market research institute." Which products in China are in particularly heavy demand? "Due to the development as described, the Chinese horticulture and landscape gardening market not only has a great need for construction and maintenance machinery, but also for construction materials such as stone, timber and plants. Above and beyond that, China is comprehensively investing in the playground, leisure and sports facilities sectors, but also in trend segments such as vertical greenery. Overall, the product groups in demand can be compared with those presented at GaLaBau in Nuremberg." How are European companies benefiting from participation at Greenery & Landscaping China? "Greenery & Landscaping China is regarded as China's most professional and influential trade fair, not only for the horticulture and landscape gardening sector, but also for landscaping architecture. Participating companies are thus provided with an attractive platform enabling them to network with China's green industry. Over 8, 000 trade visitors are expected, primarily decision-makers from government departments, representatives of public authorities and agencies along with landscape architects. Buyers and retailers from the horticulture and landscape gardening sector along with players from urban planning, park/public gardens design and rooftop greenery associations are also represented at the event. In addition to that, Greenery & Landscaping China will have an exciting support program in store.
