Kone wins order for new main line of Chongqing metro in China

Kone, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, will install more than 200 units of equipment at the 30 stations of Chongqing Metro Line 5, the main North-to-South line under construction in the Southwestern Chinese city.

The order for the first extension phase of the metro line includes 51 Kone MonoSpace elevators, six Kone MiniSpace elevators, and 166 Kone TransitMaster(TM) escalators. Chongqing is one of China's five national central cities, and the KONE equipment is estimated to help ease the flow of urban life for around 15 million people every month.

The main developer of the project is Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) Co., Ltd., and the main contractor is China Railway Second Bureau Electric Engineering Co., Ltd. The architect of the project is Chongqing Rail Transit Design and Research Institute.

The project is expected to be completed in 2017. The order was booked in the third quarter of 2016.
