ProRail commissions BAM for new rail station Driebergen-Zeist contract

ProRail has awarded the contract for the renovation of the Driebergen-Zeist station area (which is located east of Utrecht) to BAM. BAM will start construction activities in the spring of 2017. The contract value is approximately €90 million.

ProRail is completely renewing the current rail station Driebergen-Zeist on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, the Province of Utrecht and the municipalities of Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Zeist. The projects includes a new rail station, as well as a redesign of the station area.

Renewal station area
The level crossing of the single carriageway N225 (between Zeist and the A12 highway) is currently a bottleneck in the area. The project includes the construction of an underpass under the tracks and adjusting the local road network. In addition, BAM will renew the rail infrastructure by constructing two additional tracks for through train traffic.

BAM will build a new bus station and underground bicycle parking. The station is very near to several country estates, which are crucial for the natural value of the area. The activities will therefore take into account the ecological values, the landscape and cultural heritage aspects.

ProRail aims for the new station to be energy neutral, by applying among other things energy-efficient systems and the installation of solar panels on the platform roofs.
