SNC-Lavalin awarded contract for nuclear life extension project in Argentina

SNC-Lavalin (TSX: SNC) has been awarded a contract valued at over $20 million to provide management and technical guidance to Argentine nuclear reactor operator Nucleoeléctrica Argentina SA (NA-SA).

Under the contract, SNC-Lavalin will send 30 subject matter experts and reactor specialists to Argentina to guide NA-SA through the life extension of its CANDU reactor, which includes replacing main reactor components and balance of plant (BOP) equipment. The reactor is located at Embalse, Córdoba.

"We are pleased to send our CANDU experts to NA-SA to ensure their project runs smoothly, " said Preston Swafford, Chief Nuclear Officer and Executive Vice-President, Nuclear. "This life extension project will allow the Embalse nuclear power plant to provide safe, reliable, affordable and low-carbon energy for up to another thirty years."

This contract follows previous work SNC-Lavalin has done for NA-SA, including engineering, procuring and testing 370 state-of-the-art tooling systems to replace the 380 pressure tubes that hold the nuclear fuel bundles.
