ABB CEO meets India’s Prime Minister Modi to talk about industrial energy efficiency, microgrids and e-mobility

ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer has held talks with India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in New Delhi during a three-day visit to the country.

Spiesshofer's meeting with Prime Minister Modi on April 5 comes as India embarks on ambitious programs to electrify every household in the country, expand the manufacturing sector and upgrade its urban infrastructure. Their talks focused on how ABB can support the government's renewable energy initiatives and help to encourage public acceptance of renewables.

"The discussion with Prime Minister Modi was very fruitful, " Spiesshofer said. "We see particular potential for ABB's technologies in renewables penetration and microgrids, as well as for energy efficient motors and drives for industry since India still uses 30 percent more energy per unit of output than industrialized countries.

"Prime Minister Modi is especially interested in electric mobility for India's millions of auto-rickshaws and on the day of our meeting inaugurated a new service for e-rickshaws, as part of the 'Stand-up India' initiative to encourage entrepreneurship, " Spiesshofer said. "Given the government's ambitious plans to have all auto-rickshaws running on electricity in the future, we will look closely at charging solutions for e-rickshaws."
