| Tikkurila creates a dream home in a housing block awaiting demolition Tikkurila is one of the main partners of the first ever Our House Festival for Suburbia, to be held on August 8–15 in Mikkola, Vantaa, Finland. The event is being organized by Momokoti (momo = modest & modern), a project dedicated to improving the status of housing and suburban neighborhoods built in the 1950s to 1970s. The project also sets out to promote discussion on the future of suburbs in Finland, and whether Finnish families could make their dream home in the suburbs. "In Finland, 25 percent of the housing stock was built in the 1960s and the 1970s. Yet still the dream homes we see in the media are almost always either older high-end apartments or new 21st-century homes." Tikkurila has taken over a 3 rooms and kitchen apartment in a rental housing block (Marsinkuja 1 G, 3rd floor) under the theme "Every home is a dream home". Owned by VAV-Asunnot Oy, the building is currently awaiting demolition. The 1970s-style rooms have been transformed with paint to illustrate that a new home doesn't always mean moving house – sometimes a new look for the old home will do. In its signature apartment, Tikkurila explored how to create different moods and spaces in a rental apartment that, on the face of it, would seem to lack any personal character. The transformation was achieved by treating anew the surfaces and fittings in the apartment in the spirit of recycling. The different moods for the exhibition space were designed by Kaisa Pikkujämsä of Tikkurila Oyj. In addition to Tikkurila, festival partners include Lähi-Tapiola (largest owner of rental apartments in Finland), Tekes (showcases smart technology for the home), Sokos Hotels (shares its views on the Air B&B phenomenon and the trend of suburban tourism), Puustelli, Kekkilä (sets up a communal garden), Vallila, Forbo, and Finnish Design Shop. The media partners are A-Lehdet (Avotakka, Unelmien Talo&Koti) and MTV3 (Huomenta Suomi). The Our House Festival for Suburbia is produced by MOMOLIVING. Momokoti/Momoliving is a project that celebrates homes and suburban neighborhoods from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The project team produces media content, books (e.g. MOMO – the Home in its Element, 2013 Siltala) and events, in addition to doing housing-related research. Productions by the project founder, Egnahem Media Oy, include the tv series "Tehtävä lähiössä" (Mission in the suburbs, aired on Yle TV1 and Teema in 2010–11 and in 2014).
