Leighton Asia awarded project by Government of Hong Kong SAR

CIMIC Group company Leighton Contractors (Asia) Limited ('Leighton Asia') has been awarded a contract by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to construct a boundary control point on the border between Hong Kong and China. The revenue to CIMIC will be approximately A$1.2 billion (HK$7.1 billion).

The Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Buildings and Associated Facilities project will provide efficient access to the mainland of China, fulfilling the Government's objective of facilitating future regional cooperation and development.

It is the largest Hong Kong project awarded to Leighton Asia as sole contractor.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Marcelino Fernández Verdes said: "The Boundary Control Point project is a key element in the government's plans to forge closer economic integration with Mainland China and, once operational, it will generate significant benefits for Hong Kong.

Leighton Asia Managing Director Manuel Alvarez Munoz said: "CIMIC's Leighton Asia is now a key player in three major gateway projects for the Hong Kong government: the construction of the terminus for the express rail link to China, the boundary crossing facilities for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge, and the Boundary Control Point contract announced today.

The Boundary Control Point project includes construction of a passenger terminal building and nine other main ancillary buildings including fire and police bases, vehicle examination buildings and a number of bridge structures. Works will be commenced in mid-2015, with completion expected in 2018.
