| STRABAG building Rhone Oberwald power plant in Switzerland Strabag AG is building the Rhone Oberwald run-of-the-river hydroelectric plant in the Swiss canton of Valais. The contract value of € 37 million comprises the construction of the necessary tunnels, galleries and underground chambers. "We are delivering the complete construction works for this 14 MW power station, which means everything except the electromechanical components", says Stefan Wyss, the project's technical manager. The plant is to be handed over to Valais utility company FMV SA by September 2017. The tunnels and galleries will be excavated in the Aarmassif of the Swiss Alps through boring and blasting. As parts of the construction site are situated at 1,750 m above sea level, work at higher elevations can only take place for a few months during the year. write your comments about the article :: © 2015 Construction News :: home page |
