LED fluorescent tube replacement for electronic control gear

In the coming months Osram will be bringing the latest generation of Substitube T8 LED tubes to market step-by-step – the Value variant has recently been made available for operation with conventional ballasts (CCG) or directly from mains voltage, and the Basic and Advanced versions of this construction design are to follow in the coming weeks. LED tubes from Osram will then be available for the first time designed for electronic control gear (ECG) from August. All Basic and Advanced variants will bear VDE certification, and the entire new generation already complies with all specifications of the new, international safety standard for LED tubes.

Osram is offering LED tubes for the first time designed for operation with electronic control gear (ECG) from August. This means that within the latest Substitube range, now in its fifth generation, the luminous flux levels of CCG and ECG models can be directly compared to ensure uniform lighting situations within hybrid installations. Substitubes can replace standard T8 fluorescent tubes highly simply and without rewiring, and in comparison they cut electricity overheads by around two thirds with up to five times the service life.

With the launch of the latest generation, Osram is extending the guarantee periods for the Value variant to three years and for the Basic variant to five years, which then matches the Advanced version. Both last-mentioned variants have also been tested by the German Institute of Electrical, Electronic and Information Technology (VDE) regarding safety and health requirements, and bear the VDE seal representing maximum testing quality and safety standards in electrical engineering.

These two variants have also been designed for use in professional environments – Advanced for sales spaces and production locations also with extreme ambient temperatures from -20 to +50 degree Celsius, and Basic for warehouses, underground garages and corridors for example. These two professional variants are also optionally available with rotatable end caps, enabling precise beam angle adjustment through 180°. The Value version is ideal for use in private applications, for example stairways, garages and cellar rooms, and was designed for cost-oriented lighting tasks.

Compared with their predecessors the members of the latest generation of Osram LED tubes are up to 15 percent more efficient, and this development was primarily made possible via an improved heat dissipation concept, the use of more efficient LED chips and the optimised control of these. All versions in the new portfolio are available from cool white to warm white and already meet the specifications of the new, international safety standard for LED tubes in accordance with IEC 62776.
