| Atkins and DONG Energy strengthen relationship with contract for Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm Atkins, one of the world's leading design, engineering and project management consultancies, and DONG Energy, the world's leading offshore wind developer, have signed a contract for engineering design services for three offshore substations at DONG Energy's proposed Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm. Atkins now has major contracts with DONG Energy for detailed engineering design of eight offshore substations, including previous contracts signed for the offshore substations at the planned Burbo Bank Extension, Race Bank, and Walney Extension offshore wind farm projects in the UK. As part of DONG Energy's efforts to reduce the cost of offshore wind, and increase engagement with the UK supply chain to help the long term growth of the UK renewables industry, Atkins will offer a standardised approach to fabrication of the offshore substations to drive down the whole life costs to DONG Energy whilst maintaining the highest safety and reliability standards. Hornsea Project One is located 120km off the Yorkshire coast and covers approximately 407 square kilometres. The project is scheduled to commence operation by 2020 when it would become the world's first gigawatt scale far-from-shore wind farm. write your comments about the article :: © 2015 Construction News :: home page |
