Ramboll continues UK success with new Culzean jacket projects

Maersk Oil UK has awarded Ramboll Oil & Gas the detailed design for the two jackets for a central processing facility platform and a separate utilities and living quarter platform for the Culzean field offshore Aberdeen.

The projects are awarded following Ramboll's successful completion of the Culzean wellhead jacket detailed design in late 2014, which marked Ramboll's first major involvement in Maersk Oil's Culzean field.

Supporting energy security in the UK

Culzean is an ultra-high-pressure, high-temperature field located about 242 kilometres (145 miles) east of Aberdeen in the UK sector of the Central North Sea. Apart from being a key growth project for Maersk Oil, the field also has the potential to significantly support employment and energy security in the UK. The field is said to potentially deliver up to 5 per cent of the UK's gas consumption by 2020/21.

The new facilities are expected to not only support production of the Culzean discovery, but also serve as a hub for a new development cluster in the surrounding area.

Ramboll's scope of work comprises the detailed design of the jackets for the central processing facility platform and the utilities and living quarter platform and associated piles for water depth of 90 metres (296 feet). These jackets will be the largest substructures designed by Ramboll for the North Sea.

Cementing Ramboll's successful entrance to the UK market

- The Culzean wellhead jacket design which we finalised in 2014 was our chance to showcase our jacket and steel design capabilities in the UK. I am very proud that our success with the first Culzean project has now paved the way for the award of the two subsequent projects, says Bjørn V. Jønsson, Department Director, Jackets, Ramboll Oil & Gas.

He continues: - To be chosen in international competition the first time was a major breakthrough but to be chosen as the preferred provider for the subsequent jobs is the best recognition you can get.
Ramboll entered the UK oil and gas market in mid-2014 with the acquisition of an Aberdeen-based engineering company, following Ramboll's ambitious strategy towards growth and internationalisation.

Three jacket designs for the Culzean ultra-HP/HT field

The Culzean field was discovered in 2008 and is one of the largest fields in the British North Sea. Ramboll is providing detailed design of three jacket structures for the field, which has the potential to meet around 5 per cent of the UK's gas demand in 2020/21.
