Mott MacDonald’s power team establishes dedicated wind presence in Latin America

Mott MacDonald has appointed Carlos Riano to its power team in Houston, USA to lead the delivery of wind energy projects in Latin America. The move enhances the company's established presence in the region, where it provides transmission, distribution and environmental services in the power sector.

Carlos is a mechanical engineer with specialist expertise in wind energy systems. He joined Mott MacDonald in 2010 and has worked on wind energy developments around the world, including Europe, Africa and South America. He is an Associate of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Member of the Energy Institute.

The wind energy team will work closely with Mott MacDonald's network of global power resources to reinforce the firm's services to the Latin American market.

Commenting on his appointment, Carlos said: "Establishing a dedicated presence to serve the Latin American wind market provides Mott MacDonald with the capability needed to better understand requirements and project stakeholders. We are now able to provide technical advice about grid and environmental aspects of power projects first hand, while also assessing implementation of wind farms in the region".

"Mott MacDonald has long-term working relationships with both commercial and development banks and export credit agencies in the United States which will only grow stronger with this move. Our position with wind energy developers based in Latin American countries will be strengthened as well, " Carlos added.

Mott MacDonald has worked on numerous wind farm schemes in Latin America, totalling US$3 billion since 2010. These include the award-winning Orosí wind farm in Costa Rica and Cerro de Hula, Honduras' first wind farm. The company also has a strong presence in Uruguay, working as technical advisor during the financing of ten projects.
