Acciona receives the CDP Climate Performance Leadership prize

CDP, one of the global corporate environmental communication systems with the biggest impact on investors around the world, awarded Acciona the CDP Climate Performance Leadership Prizefor obtaining the top score in the worldwide Climate Performance Leadership Index that monitors the fight against climate change. This index includes the top 187 companies in the world that have the best initiatives against climate change. Acciona also scored 99 in the CDP Iberia 125 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index, a transparency index in which it achieved its highest ever score.

Acciona, which saw its "A" grading in the Climate Performance Leadership Index renewed for a fourth year, according to the global report drawn up by CDP, is the utility with the least greenhouse gas emissions in the world in relation to its revenues. Not only that, it shows the strongest trend in the reduction of CO2 emissions among companies in its sector.

Felix Rivas Anoro, Director of the Area of Innovation, Environment and Quality of Acciona, received the award on behalf of the company in a ceremony held today during the presentation of the CDP Iberia 125 Climate Change Report 2014. In the course of the event the CDP Iberia 125 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (a transparency index) was announced, in which Acciona obtained a score of 99, the highest in its history and two points up on the previous year's figure.

The inclusion of Acciona in the Climate Performance Leadership Index and the Iberia 125 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index demonstrates, in CDP's view, that the company fully integrates climate change into its strategy and also offers a high level of transparency regarding the management of its emissions. CDP calculates that Acciona's operations avoided the emission of more than 15 million metric tons of CO2 to the atmosphere in 2013, i.e. it avoided the CO2 generated through its productive activity 24 times over.

CDP, previously known as Carbon Disclosure Project, is a nonprofit international organization that provides a comprehensive system for companies and cities to measure, disseminate, manage and share useful environmental information. CDP works with market operators and 767 large-scale investors representing a third of the capital invested in world markets, with the idea of encouraging companies to publish their impacts on the environment and natural resources, and to take measures to reduce them. The information provided by CDP is a useful evaluation tool for institutional investors and interest groups that wish to learn about companies' efforts to offset climate change.
