Sector ranking of industrial services providers: Bilfinger extends leading position

The engineering and services group Bilfinger has extended its number one position among German industrial services companies. This was the result of the just-published Lünendonk Study for the year 2013. Bilfinger had already been ranked first by a wide margin in previous years. In the current ranking, the market leader was able to further extend its advantage over its German competitors.

The volume generated by Bilfinger in its industrial services business on the German market grew to €841 million (previous year: €805 million). The ranking also shows that Bilfinger continues to have the highest international share among German providers in this sector: in the past year, nearly 80 percent of the output volume of €3, 963 million (previous year: €3, 705 million) was generated in international markets, primarily in Europe and in the United States.

With a 47 percent share of Group output volume, Industrial is Bilfinger's largest business segment.

Sector looks optimistically to the future

According to the Lünendonk Study, the 15 largest companies in the German industrial services sector expect an annual domestic sales growth of between 4 and 5 percent until 2020. In addition to growth in the project business, the companies surveyed anticipate a renewed increase in the importance of outsourcing solutions for ongoing maintenance works.

The prevailing optimistic mood in the industrial services sector, however, is being curbed by the energy transformation in Germany. According to industry representatives, it is leading, on the one hand, to greater uncertainty in the planning of investments and, on the other hand, rising energy and production costs could push customers to move elsewhere.

The annual study from consulting company Lünendonk is an important market barometer of the sector for industrial services providers in Germany.
