Spanish Government grants Esther Koplowitz Gold Medal for Merit at Work

Esther Koplowitz has been awarded a Gold Medal for Merit at Work by the Spanish government. The awards, announced yesterday, were created by the government to "reward and highlight" exemplary behaviour across business and society.

The Chairwoman of the Esther Koplowitz Foundation, and the Vice-President of the Board of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas FCC, was praised by the government for her "socially beneficial" conduct and her "leading performance" in the practices required by any work, profession or service.

Through her personal commitment to philanthropic causes, and her efforts to prioritise social responsibility within FCC's corporate values, she has made a significant contribution across business and society. In the process she has become known as one of Europe's leading philanthropists and businesswomen.

FCC currently has over 80,000 employees, making it one of Spain's largest companies. Under Esther Koplowitz's leadership the company has been hailed by the Spanish government for providing a model "Equality and Inclusion Policy" and for its "employment of groups at risk of exclusion".

Esther Koplowitz has received numerous recognitions and awards for her philanthropic work as well as for her business acumen. Among them, the Legion of Honor by the French Republic, the Great Cross of the Order of Civil Merit, the Gold Medal of Civil Order for Social Solidarity, the Gold Medal from Madrid region, the Blanquerna award from Generalitat of Cataluña and the Gold Medal and Academic Honor from the Royal History Academy.

Other 2014 recipients of the prestigious Gold Medal for Merit at Work include tennis star Rafael Nadal, priest Father Angel and, posthumously, the composer and flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia.
